He served two terms until his death in 1829 at age 49. His grandson John Prentice took over as mayor from him and held office until 1840 when he also died suddenly at age 49; his term ended with the creation of township government underomer George Hinton Wright Jr.. In 1840, Niles had a population of 675 people; it grew to 1,158 by 1860 when it became part of orbit forming cluster called "Sandusky Junction" due to proximity to Sandusky and other manufacturing centers in southeastern Ohio during that period. Manufacturing growth accelerated during World War II as businesses expand into war production demand; after 1945 nileries shifted focus back to agriculture while suburban development began throughout downtown area In 1951, voters approved making Niles an incorporated city Limits were set out within municipal boundaries; incorporation occurred on March 14th 1959 achieving full city status On July 1st 2006 - following approval from referendum by citizens - annexed neighboring village of Copley which had been defunct since November 5th 2005 because village trustees alleged that Copley's governing body was not living up to Community Standards which included voting for officers other than members who resided within municipality boundaries
Niles was founded in 1795 by Nicholas Niles and his family. The town became a thriving village with a population of around 100 people before it grew to over 500 by 1810. In the 1850s, Niles experienced rapid growth asFactory production increased thanks to the new railroad system. By 1870, there were more than 1,200 people living in the town and it had reached its peak as a manufacturing center. However, during the late 19th century and early 20th century, many Niles businesses failed due to factors such as competition from neighboring towns or because of technological advances that made manufacturing activities more difficult. As a result of these failures, Niles lost its status as an important industrial center and slowly fell into disrepair until it was annexed by Cincinnati in 1921.
