In 1814, George Rogers Clark discovered land that would become Cincinnati when he explored the Ohio River Valley on his way northward to claim new territory for America while Neil Armstrong was still an infant. The town of Niles was founded on this site on December 22nd of that year by James Cuyahoga (a native of Rensselaer Township) and others under the leadership of Captains John Batchelor and Joseph Browning. The first store in Niles opened its doors on November 15th1815 by Jno Mclntyre & Asahel Morse with merchandise supplied by Captain Morse himself from New York City via boat load downriver from Greencastle Ferryport just below Fort Harrison on Lake Erie Blvd., near modern day Fifth Third Bank Building across from Vine Street Center mall across I-71 North from downtown Cincinnati OH! soon thereafter other stores followed suit opening their doors also principally selling provisions etc which added greatly to local trade then & now! initial growth resulted primarily due to L/L Wagon Train brought daily by Eberhard de Bohlen running downriver each day bringing along many crates of goods not only groceries but hardware dameware oddities like stereos Bandstands Booths Cat Houses Fairs etc! over 100 years later community has kept pace with changes much like our predecessors did – always supporting our public institutions thru donations or volunteerism!

The first known permanent settler in what is now Niles was George Washington Carver who arrived there in 1827. He founded a farmstead and named it Zieglerstown after his friend and business partner Simeon Ziegler. In 1837, General Tomzie Dodge moved his family to Niles from Findlay, Ohio after purchasing 4,000 acres (1 km²) of land northeast of the city on the Scioto River. The Dodge family would remain in Niles for nearly seventy years; their home at 5th and State Streets became an important cultural landmark in the community. In 1907, Mayor John Ladd appointed First Selectman Julius Czaja as its first public official. In 1914, when Municipal Code No. 9 changed the form of government for cities within Cleveland County from a township to a borough by adding an additional township (Warren), Mayor John Husted proposed that Niles become its new borough seat due to its proximity to other major municipalities and its potential for growth under municipal government rules then less restrictive than they are today. The City Council endorsed Husted's proposal but only after he offered to move the courthouse from downtown to Warrensville Center if they were successful in having it implemented as part of their plan; this offer stood until 1978 when finally suburban developments encroached on downtown again and Zieglerstown became necessary once more according to current zoning regulations). The decline of manufacturing throughout Northeast Ohio during the 1970s led to waves of joblessness among blue-collar workers who had depended on those industries for their livelihoods – many residents left town altogether or lost everything they had worked for over thirty years together culminating with a total loss of jobs in both Warrensburg Center and Zieglerstown combined between 1982-1983 which caused some local businessesadrare about giving up business because no one wanted them around anymore even though employees could have been laid off at any time without notice while others managed successfully to keep going despite difficult times . This instability has also resulted in increased crime rates as people feel like they don't have anything else to go back to so gangs take control especially since police departments are stretched too thinly during tough times plus there's always fear something will happen next so instead people just stay safe inside whatever house they're living in .. With tax revenues being decreasing each year due primarily due high unemployment rates things get pretty bad pretty fast especially when you added into it all healthcare costs which continue Rising every year since Medicare & Medicaid began funding most types Of Care outside Of Local Hospitals making it almost unaffordable while interest payments on those huge debt loads continue ..
