Niles, Ohio is home to one of the largest gun museums in the United States. The museum, which is located in a former armory on Maple Street, has over 30 firearms from throughout history on display. Some of the most famous guns from this locality include the Peacemaker revolver used by John Wilkes Booth in 1865, and the .45 caliber Colt 1911 pistol that was used by James Brown at Al Capone's trial in 1931. Niles, Ohio has a rich history of hosting gun shows and competitions. The city was founded in 1827 by seven pioneers who came from Michigan. The first gun show was held in Niles in 1868. It was the first organized event where guns were auctioned off and the first time handguns were ever allowed on public property. In 1903, Niles became the capital of Ohio and hosted its own national exposition called the National Exposition of America which showcased American culture and technology. Gun shows continued to be held in Niles until after World War II when they declined due to regulations put in place by the government during that time.
Niles is a city in Niles Township, Muskegon County, Michigan, United States. The population was 5,526 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Muskegon County and part of the Grand Rapids–Wixom Metropolitan Statistical Area. It was founded by Nicholas Matteson in 1815 as a fur trading post on the Muskegon River. In 1836, Niles became an incorporated town after being voted into existence by voters at a town meeting. It remained an unincorporated community until it absorbed neighboring townships in 1927. The first settler to arrive in what is now Niles was John Cline on July 4, 1815. He named his post "Matteson's Landing" after himself and Nicholas Matteson (a fur trader). Matteson built a log cabin here on August 22, 1816; he and his family later moved to what is now Gratiot Avenue. The first stores were built at this location: A Saginaw merchant named Fenton opened a store here on October 15, 1836; he also sold firewood from his home to customers coming downriver for heating their homes during the cold winter months. In 1840s and 1850s many new farms were platted around present-day Niles - some still extant today including Lebanon Road and Maple Road - with lots selling for $1 or less per acre (west of Wixom). One such early landowner was Isaac Morris who owned 640 acres (27 hectares) west of where Gratiot Avenue intersects Maple Road near present-day State Route 1082. By 1860 most of these tracts had been developed into residential areas with large lots averaging .75 acres (2 hectares), although smaller lots continued to be available for purchase until well after prohibition ended in 1933." One early African American inhabitant of Niles was Johnnie Cochran who born Solomon Hawkins worked as a laborer on farmstead operated by Jno Cushman located between Cedarhurst Rd./State Route 6 and maple road west of current day State Route 1082 intersection east of where Elm Street meets Maple Rd./State Route 1082 before moving to property north side eastworth ago known as old state farmstead then picking scrap metal off road while black men took care morning hours

Niles, Ohio is a town in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 7,362 at the 2010 census. Niles is one of the largest villages in Stark County and its ZIP code is 44604. It has a small college town feel with businesses such as EDS (Eli Lilly & Company) and IBM located near downtown. The first settler in what would become Niles occurred in 1810 when Levi Richardson came from Portsmouth, England to land on the Scioto River just east of present day Niles. At that time there were no rivers running through Stark County and it was only a part of the Northwest Territory of Ohio until 1792 when it became part of Indiana Territory. In 1800 John Stephenson founded Stevenson's Corners on the south side of the Scioto River opposite modern day Niles after purchasing 640 acres (2 km²) on its banks from Major General Anthony Wayne for $5 per acre ($/ha). In 1814 Nathaniel Hawthorne settled along the Scioto River close to where today's Village Green meets State Route 11 or Harrison Street. He built his home "Hawthorne Hill" which still stands today and his brother Alfred moved into it soon after completion. When Indian Chief Tecumseh threatened to attack noncombatant settlers living along both sides of the river he ordered all men within striking distance to raise their rifles and shoot him if he appeared on either side of the river between Clinton Hill Road north and south or upon any other public place not under military protection. No shot was ever fired during that crisis which ended with Tecumseh's death in 1818 at Camden Hills west of Cincinnati while being conveyed by horseback across Tippecanoe Creek towards Wheeling before reaching adulthood at age 24 years old! In 1821 Stephen Foster opened Foster's Store on Main Street which served as an early post office from 1825-1827; it closed due to lack of mail service then reopened several times until its final closure in 1907-1909.
