After World War II ended, gun control measures were enacted in most Western societies; however, New Jersey did not follow suit until after its own civil rights movement began in earnest in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Consequently, gun control laws remain substantially different than those existing in other Western countries with similar histories of firearms regulation.
