In 1892, Ohio's first optical store, The Optical Shop of New Philadelphia, opened its doors to the public. The store was located on the corner of Third and Market Streets in downtown Cincinnati. Today, the building is home to several businesses including an art gallery and a restaurant. The Optical Shop of New Philadelphia was one of the first stores in America to sell optical products such as telescopes and binoculars. In addition to selling optics, the shop also served as a learning center for young people who wanted to learn about science and technology. In 1916, the shop began selling television sets which allowed viewers in Ohio and other parts of America to watch programs from around the world. Throughout its years of business, The Optical Shop of New Philadelphia has been an important factor in helping keep Columbus open during times of economic change. For example, when television became available throughout most of America in 1951, The Optical Shop continued to sell TVs until 1975. Similarly, when computer usage increased during the early days of digital media consumers needed a place to buy special software that couldn't be found at local convenience stores or department stores? The Optical Shop provided this service until 1976! Polk following his Kansas–Nebraska Act (1846), New Philadelphia quickly emerged as one of America’s leading cities because it had already established itself as a transportation hub served by railroad lines that ran east-west through central Ohio Valley regions. In 1892, ownership passed from local paper company founder Amos Kendall to The Daily News Company upon his death; this marked beginning of years during which rapid development took place within its boundaries with numerous commercial enterprises being founded or relocated here from more distant central areas including Cincinnati and Pittsburgh while also creating handsome neighborhoods characterized by large numbers of residences built atop rolling hills overlooking downtown Cleveland giving rise to nicknames such as “Hillbilly City” or “The Blighty Borough” while also becoming home to several colleges/universities: Case Institute School District No 1 & 2 (now Case Western Reserve University) were located adjacent to town on streets called Clarkson Avenue & Lenox Road; Xavier University opened nearby on Euclid Avenue just west of town limits before merged into Case Institute School District No 1 & 2 in 1916; Stritch College moved across town from original location behind Presbyterian Church on Elm Street into present day NewPhiladelphia proper; Temple Emanuel Synagogue (founded 1865), First Presbyterian Church (founded 1850) – all located within blocks northward from downtown Drewry Square until 1951 when they were relocated out into Timothy Street vicinity following merger with adjacent Stritch College buildings into newly created Drewry Square West Campus housing multiple universities/colleges etc.; Businessman Lucius Clay founded Clay Laboratories here 1943 having previously been convicted Of Murder In Akron Federal Correctional Institution 1945 While serving Life sentence there For Killing Prisoner
