In recent years, there has been an increase in crime around New Philadelphia due to gang activity and drug trafficking activities taking place within the community boundaries. As a result, it has been decided by many residents that it is not safe for them to live there anymore and have turned their attention towards moving away altogether.
New Philadelphia is a small town in Clark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,914 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbus metropolitan area. The community was founded in 1811 and named for George Washington's new nation, Potomac Township. New Philadelphia was incorporated as a village on November 3, 1831. On October 26, 1837, it became a town when it annexed the neighboring communities of Whitehall and Springdale. In 1907 the townships of Fallbrook and West Chester were merged into New Philadelphia while Easton Township was annexed to Clarksville on February 14, 1915. New Philadelphia is located on the Scioto River opposite Columbus.[1] The first settler in what would become New Philadelphia was James Gist who arrived in 1800 from Maryland[2]. He built his home at what is now known as Gist's Grove which he called "Bethlehem." Gist had two children with his wife Nancy: Isaac and Martha Ann (née Robertson). They were joined by their brother John Robertson (1801-1877) after he arrived from Scotland in 1802[3][4]. John baptized nine children including future president James K. Polk (1846-1912).[5][6][7] In 1811 Washington moved his capital to Alexandria due to increasing cost of living issues within Potomac Township[8]. George Washington had chosen Alexandria because its location near Chesapeake Bay made it an ideal site for his new nation[9], but this decision met with criticism from some within Potomac Township who felt that they should have been given priority over Alexandria[10]. On November 3rd, 1831 George Washington designated Potomac Township as the new seat of government for what would eventually become America[11]. Accordingly on October 26th NewPhiladelphia incorporation occurred under Article XI Section 2 Of The Ohio Constitution making it an official municipality separate from both Whitehall and Springdale Village Churches Incorporating themselves into same bounds & limits thereto’).[14][15] This act solidified NewPhiladelphia citizens allegiance towards their own village rather than London or Richmond during this time period when those places were still considered parts of Virginia

The town's namesake is derived from its location on the Delaware River, about 25 miles south of what is now Pittsburgh. With new transportation methods such as steamboats and wagons, travelers could now explore many new areas without fear of being lost or stranded. This new way of life led to increased trade between Pennsylvania and Ohio, which helped to support New Philadelphia's growth. In 1836, when Cincinnati became an important hub on the national stage due to its status as a commercial center as well as its connections with both Kentucky and Michigan Territory, NewPhiladelphia experienced similar changes. With increasing trade opportunities came more investment in infrastructure such as roads and schools. Today, much of this Waveland-owned land still constitutes part of downtown New Philly history while portions are also used for housing developments such as The Ritz-Carlton Center area on Market Street near High Street and the University Circle area around Broad Ripple Avenue east of Pittsburg Boulevard
New Philadelphia was founded by the Ohio Company in 1792. The town was named for George Washington, who had served as a captain in the American Revolution and as the first U.S. president. New Philadelphia grew quickly, becoming a major center of trade and industry. The city became an important stop on the Underground Railroad, helping to keep many slaves from being brought to America. In 1814, New Philadelphia was annexed by Pittsburgh, making it one of the largest cities in Pennsylvania.
