Gun targets have been part of Mount Vernon, Ohio history for as long as the town has been around. In fact, the first target shooting school in Mount Vernon was established in 1868. The popularity of target shooting started to increase in the early 1800s and by 1900, there were over 50 different types of gun targets available on hand at the local Shooting Club. The early days of target shooting were all about fun and excitement. People would go to various ranges across Mount Vernon to shoot at various types of targets. Today, annual target shoots are still a popular event in the community. There are many different types of targets that can be shot at, so everyone is sure to have a great time!

Mount Vernon is a small town in northwestern Ohio, United States. The population was 1,559 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lima–Canton, OH-5 school district. The Mount Vernon post office closed on July 15, 2009. The first settler in what is now Mount Vernon was David Levy who arrived in 1795 and established a farmstead on the east bank of the Scioto River. In 1814, when Ohio became a state, Levy donation land to Cincinnati for what is today Uniontown Township was designated as part of Mount Vernon Township . In 1825, John Marshall purchased Levys land and laid out a townsite around his home which he named after himself: "Marshallstown". The town's first store opened in 1830 by Samuel Dunham and continued until it burned down in 1841. A new store was built by Elijah White in 1840 and it still stands today as the only survivor from that time frame in Mount Vernon Township . In 1846 Joshua Kilpatrick homesteaded land west of present day Meridian Road within present day Mount Vernon Township . He also donated two horses to the township government which were used for transportation purposes until they were replaced by motorcycles some years later. On March 5th 1865 Buffalo Bill Cody visited the area while touring Western Reserve County; he stayed at Kilpatrick’s home nearpresent-day Elmira for three days before continuing his tour upriver to Sandusky. A post office called Clintonville was established at Moran Hill (now part of Battle Creek) on November 15th 1847 by Jethro Tancock with two letters signed “JT” under authority of President James K. Polk; it operated until mid-1851 whenClintonville was discontinued due to lack of mail volume.. In 1861 Ohio became Confederate territory duringthe American Civil War; members from Harrisonburg (now Summit) attended a meeting organized by General George Meigs to decide whether or not to joined Confederate forces but did not leave their homes because they could not bear arms against their own countrymen .. On January 7th 1870 , an act authorizing creation of Lima–Canton school districts passed both houses of Congress with only 21 nays votes! This markednearly one half century since much less than one percent (~0.0002%)of all school board members actually lived within those districts boundaries – primarily becausehomeschooling parents wanted more control over their children’s education than local officials were willing or ableto provide .. On May 1st 1870 , Mt Vernon’s new school building opened its doors after four years construction costing $8500 .. That same year residents completed construction on what would become known as “The white house” which stood adjacent to present day Maple Street between Sherman Avenue andPresent Day Elmira Road .. In 1893 Mrs Hilda Sweeny gifted property located off Center Street just east of Maple Street towards Gahanna Heights annexation into Toledo proper .. In 1905 her family donated another piece otland located near Bearcat Alley between Frontage Road & Amherst Avenue makingMountVernononeofonlyfour jurisdictionsinOHtoholdthespecificrighttoaddamslakefrontresidenceinthedoctorialcenteroftoledoarea .. MrsSweenygavejointlytotheTownshipandUSDalfaorsolecollectionofirrigationpipes,.laterbecameknownasTheHills . Over time additional properties were donated including First Presbyterian Church (1927), Beechwood Baptist Church (1929), Broadview Road Methodist Episcopal Zion Church (1937), Cedar View Park Playground (1980) and many others still standing today within the limits confines OfMountVernon Twp., Oh

The first serious attempts at pistol-shotgun target shooting took place in 1828, when two Americans, Nicholas-Jacques Conte and Horatio Nelson Ayer, created a small device they called a clapperboard. This simple target was used to test new pistols and rifles by firing off small rounds at close range. Target shootings continued to grow in popularity throughout the 19th century; however, they were largely limited to amateur shooters. In 1892, John Brownell developed the first successful self-loading rifle that could fire multiple rounds per minute. This made target shooting more accessible to professional shooters, who now could afford high-quality equipment. With advances in technology and ammunition availability over the next few decades, target shootings grew increasingly competitive and lucrative. Today,target Shooting is a popular spectator sport enjoyed by millions of people around the world; it has even been featured on television shows such as “ reality” TV programs .

Mount Vernon was founded by George Washington in 1792. The land that now makes up Mount Vernon was given to him by the Lenni Lenape people. The first Europeans to visit the area were French settlers, and they named the area Pemaquid because of a small freshwater stream that ran through it. Eventually, English colonists arrived, and they renamed the area Mount Vernon because of their veneration of King George III. In 1802, President James K. Polk sold Mount Vernon to General David Hunter for $14,000. General Hunter used it as his home until his death in 1849. From then on, Mount Vernon remained largely untouched by human activity until 1840 when a group of Americans from Cincinnati laid siege to it and burned down part of it while the rest was under renovation for use as a national park. After being rebuilt, Mount Vernon became one of America's most popular tourist destinations. It also saw significant military activity during World War II due to its strategic location at Ohio's eastern border with Nazi Germany. Today, Mount Vernon is an important cultural center in Cleveland and is open to the public every day except Christmas (when it is closed).
The first white settler in Mount Vernon, Ohio was James Robertson in 1798. The town was founded on the east side of the Olmsted River by settlers from what is now Indiana and Kentucky. The town slowly grew as a result of its location and its importance as a transportation link between Cincinnati and other parts of Ohio. By 1814, Mount Vernon had a population of about 150 people. In 1819, the town was renamed for President George Washington because he had been born in nearby Danville, Virginia. In 1825, Mount Vernon became part of the newly created state of Ohio. It continued to grow rapidly thanks to its importance as a transportation hub and its access to resources such as coal and lumber. By 1830, Mount Vernon had a population of 3,000 people. In 1834, the town approved plans for an electric lighting system that would make it the first American town to have this type of infrastructure. Mount Vernon experienced significant growth during the late 19th century due to various industrial developments such as textile mills and paper kilns.During World War II, Mount Vernon played an important role in supplying munitions to America's war effort. After the war ended in 1945, many businesses closed down but some small businesses thrived while others struggled through the post-war period. Aftermarket dealers began selling old school cars in 1997; this led to increased traffic around Mount Vernon which caused problems for local police officers who were unable to maintain law and order
