Mount Vernon is a small town in the U.S. state of Ohio located on the southern bank of the Scioto River. The population was 3,531 at the 2010 census, down from 4,041 in 2000. There are also several museums located within or near Mount Vernon including The National Museum of American History which opened in 1971, The Lenox Library & Museum which was founded in 1875 by philanthropist Amos Nee Lewin and serves as both a research center for library services throughout central Ohio and a cultural destination for Clevelanders, as well as containing one of America’s largest collections of Early American artifacts; Mount Vernon Village Resort operates three golf courses within walking distance while also providing dining options such as Cavanaugh’s Table (named after Commodore Perry), adjacent to The President’s House restaurant;and two private schools – One public school serving students grades PreK-12th through 12th grade along with lessons available for those ages 13 through Adult – Bellevue School District No 627 provides pre-kindergarten through 8th grade services to students residing withinracially diverse communities west of Interstate 75;[1] Heritage High School offers classes 9th thru 12thgrades female athletes have access to an excellent prep/Advanced Placement program that helps prepare them for collegelevel coursework]; Finally there is the renowned scientific institution – Case Western Reserve University - which resides adjacent to luxury resort Corinthia Isle where scholars from all cornersof the world come together each year for summer seminars on various topics related to their field Of Note: A new park has been created adjacent to Bellevue school district #627 (Heritage high school) with playground equipment, basketball courts/homesite (girls only), baseball diamonds/grounds site(s), soccer fields/parking lot(s),Fountain Grove Baptist Church being renovated into an affordable housing project will be completed on or around 2020 creating numerous jobs along with retail development nearby that could contain new stores or office space yielding tremendous tax revenue stream

Mount Vernon is a town in Scioto County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland-Akron-Middletown metropolitan area and was named for George Washington's Mount Vernon estate. The first Europeans to visit what is now Mount Vernon were French traders and explorers François de la Salle and René Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle in 1679–80. They journeyed up the Monongahela River from Canada to find new land on which to build Fort Duquesne in 1701. In 1785, during the Northwest Indian War (1786-1792), General Anthony Wayne founded Battle Creek Reserve within present day Scioto County as a place where Native Americans could live without fear of attack by whites. In 1794, when Ohio became a United States territory, Wayne's reserve was made into an incorporated village called Mount Vernon under the name of "Washington". In 1803, following the end of the Mexican–American War (1810-1821), President James K. Polk designated Mount Vernon as part of Adams County in accordance with Thaddeus Stevens's plan to create new western territories across America due to its strategic location between Detroit and Cincinnati along both rivers. In 1815, following the American Civil War (1861- 1865), General Ulysses S. Grant pushed eastward from Pittsburgh through central Pennsylvania towards Baltimore via Westmoreland County and then Northumberland County before reaching Mount Vernon on July 12th near modern day Sylvania Heights Cemetery just south of I-675 exit 30A off State Route 422 just past milepost 9 on Old Route 422 bedded between two mountains about high or higher lying timberlands thickly intermingling with small farming villages situated for subsistence purposes around several miles wide surrounded by forested country lying abutting upon navigable streams having excellent water facilities especially suitable for raising corn & other commodities this large tract being productive beyond description & well adapted for open cultivation handsomely wooded most parts richly timbered over woods giving rise to pleasant views looking down upon rapids flowing through very deep valleys covered with many fine trees hemlock & holly
