Montgomery, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio, and the county seat of Montgomery County. The population was 41,813 at the 2010 census. It is located on the southern border of Cincinnati proper and is bordered by Hamilton County to the north and east, Trumbull County to the south and west, and Lake Erie to the northwest. The community was founded in 1814 by George Rogers Clark as a trading post on Great Miami River. It became a town in 1837 when it was included within Cleveland Township. In 1853 it became part of become an independent city when it incorporated as Montgomeryville from Cleveland Township. The current name honors General Robert E Lee who fought for America during both World War II and the Korean War before dying in 1865 at age 81 years old. The first mayor of Montgomeryville was James Fenton (1880-1882). After his death, John Pemberton took office until he resigned due to health concerns in 1902; then Abraham Lincoln appointed John Gentry (1902-1904) as interim mayor until another election could be held which would allow Edward Teller (1904-1920) to take office permanently. On December 1, 1920 Montgomeryville merged with Euclid into what is now Cincinnati proper

Montgomery is also known for its Montgomery Agricultural Company, which grew corn and other crops around 1800 to export to Europe. The company's assets were auctioned off in 1907 and 1908. In 1892, a group of local businessmen organized what became the Dayton–Montgomery Telephone Company. This company provided telephone service to rural areas throughout northwest Ohio until it merged with Western Union in 1984.
