Montgomery is located on the eastern edge of Dayton and is just south of I-270 across from Cincinnati. As one of the most heavily Republican towns in central Ohio, Montgomery has been a center for political conservatism since its early days as a frontier outpost on the Scioto River Valley. For many years it also contained one of America's largest concentrations of Amish farmers, who are known for their strict beliefs in pacifism and self-reliance. However, recent years have seen a revival in Montgomery's Democratic Party politics due to its growing economy and suburban growth; today it has a mayor and two City Council members each with full voting power. Montgomery was founded by Phineas Gage during his 1811 survey tour through what is now central Ohio because he believed that if he could find an opening between Great Lakes Michigan and Erie then someone else must have done so before him—an idea which he repeated throughout his life as he explored new territory. Gage named his new settlement after James Hance (1768-1828), an American Revolutionary officer killed at Yorktown by British forces shortly after his capture; Hance's family had owned land around present-day Montgomery since 1797 when they moved from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania to become settlers in this area following Phineas Gage's expedition into what is now Lucas County, Kentucky

Montgomery, Ohio is a small town in the Trumbull County area of central Ohio. The population was 7,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron metropolitan area. The first people to live in Montgomery were settlers from Maryland and Virginia who arrived there in 1788. They built a cabin on the banks of the Scioto River. The first school in Montgomery was operated by teachers from Lancaster, Pennsylvania. In 1814, George Washington visited Montgomery and it became known as "the capital of Upper Ohio." In 1818, Congress passed an act that designated Montgomery as the seat of government for Trumbull County. The town was incorporated as a city on December 19, 1825. On November 1, 1830, President Andrew Jackson appointed John Cranch to be Mayor and James Wray to serve as City Councilor. During World War II (1939-1945), Montgomery served as one of four U.S.-occupied towns in Northwestern Ohio during the war's Japanese occupation (along with Dayton and Zanesville). On July 4th 1945, after more than two years of bombardment by Allied forces along with bombings by incendiary bombs throughout downtown Montgomery and other neighborhoods several times per day,[1] Japan surrendered unconditionally at noon following Operation Mockingbird—a secret operation carried out under Japanese command to influence public opinion throughout Asia towards surrendering unconditionally.[2] After World War II ended, most residents returned home but some continued to reside in tents or shacks until redevelopment began around 1960 which removed most remaining vestiges of wartime infrastructure including many homes which had been deliberately set alight during bombing raids weeks earlier while occupants slept unaware their belongings were targets
Montgomery, Ohio was originally founded in 1788 by James Montgomery and his family. The town grew quickly due to its natural resources and its location on the Great Miami River. In 1827, Montgomery became the seat of Defiance County. The county was abolished in 1850, and Montgomery continued to exist as a separate town until 1867 when it became part of Defiance County again.
