Montgomery, Ohio is a city in and the county seat of Montgomery County, Ohio, United States. The population was 61,671 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbus metropolitan area. Montgomery was founded in 1795 by James Montieth and his brother-in-law Sir William Irvine as a trading post on the Scioto River. In 1814, it became the capital of Ohio. The city's first mayor was John Fenton and its first recorder was George Harker. Montgomery prospered during the American Civil War due to its strategic location on the confluence of two major rivers: the Scioto and Olmsted Rivers made it an important military base for Union forces fighting against Confederate General Robert E. Lee's army. By 1865, however,AAgent had moved away from what had been its primary economic focus to become a center for education and industrialization within Interstate 75; this change contributed to Montgomery's decline during Reconstruction period which followed World War II . Today, Montgomery retains some traces of its historical Roots while becoming one of Columbus' most vibrant communities with cutting-edge businesses and renowned cultural institutions The history of Montgomery began with James Montieth who settled there in 1795 when he established his trading post on the Scioto River near where present day downtown sits today In 1814 Fort Lewis was built just acrossriver from Montieth’s post to serve as federal headquarters during times when Washington D C was not accessible This fort served as a model for later military posts built throughout Ohio including Fort Meade (1827) barracks complex now home to US Military Academy cadets When Ford Motor Company became interested in expanding into central Ohio they purchased land along both sides of I-75 between Enfield Rd & Dublin Rd which would become their manufacturing district known as Dearborn Heights or DT for short As production increased so did demand for housing throughout DT until finally residents started building their own homes starting with small frame cottagettes called “Betty Bopp” around 1915 or 1916 These homes continued to be built until relocations led to abandonment beginning in earnest after WWII And then came all those new suburbs that sprung up like unincorporated Medina Township outside Dayton which were never planned or authorized by either city fathers or Mayor Tom Barrett who saw them coming thanks largely to Art Rooney Sr who convinced him that if you build it they will come Consequently over 30 years later noresidentofMontgomeryhaseverleftthecity

Montgomery, Ohio is a small town in the state of Ohio, located in Lake County. The population was 2,827 as of the 2010 census. Montgomery is one of three townships in the county and is bordered by Maumee to the north, Defiance to the east, and Ottawa to the south. According to the 2000 census, Montgomery has a total area of 21 square miles (57 km²). The first settler in Montgomery was Hiram Haines who arrived during 1811. He built a cabin on what is now State Route 5 near present-day Uniontown. The community name "Montgomery" originated from Haines' home place which he named Montague after his father's birthplace in England. A post office was established at Montgomery in 1814 and remained open until it was discontinued in 1901. In 1825, Captain John Sweeny moved his family from Portsmouth Township to what is now Montgomery. He erected a log cabin on what today is State Route 5A just northeast of present day Uniontown. By 1830, Sweeny had two other stores and butcher shop at this location along with some land for farming that he donated to the township trustees. In 1840s there were only three families residing within Montgomery limits - those of Captain John Sweeny & his wife Betsy; Eli & Anna Stephenson; George Witherspoon & his wife Susannah Daugherty - all farmers with either one or two slaves each engaging in agriculture or raising cattle or hogs on their own lands between them and their families." In 1851 when Washington Township formed out of part of Maumee Township under Article V Section 3 of the Ohio Constitution following its annexation by Toledo during that year’s general election campaign as part of Toledo’s municipal reorganization effort – including an increase also given to Maumee Township residents therein over time culminating at $1 per capita – Captain John Sweeny became its first trustee appointed pursuant thereto by ordinance dated January 1st ‘51″ continuing thereafter through November 30th annually thereafter until such time as said Trustees may be changed by vote thereof at a special meeting held pursuant thereto duly called for that purpose pursuant generally to artikel XIV section 7 thereof – being then age seventy five years having resided therein continuously since said date aforesaid’ etc., thus concluding captain john smeaney’s long tenure as trustee starting January 1st 1951 thru November 30th every year…..thus making captain john smeaney one Of The earliest Settlers hereabouts
Montgomery was a small town in the state of Ohio until 1803, when it became part of the Northwest Territory. The area now encompassing Montgomery was first settled by early European settlers in the late 17th century. By 1800, there were only a few hundred residents living in what is now Montgomery County. The county seat was located at Newark, but by 1803 it had moved to Whatcom County.
