Montgomery is a city in Hancock County, Ohio, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron– Canton–Muncie Metropolitan Statistical Area. Montgomery is the county seat of Hancock County. The first settler in what became Montgomery was James Averill who arrived on July 12, 1810. He and his family were pioneers in what would become one of Ohio's earliest towns. James Averill had five children: John (1811-1892), Martha (died young), Jemima (1813-1885), Isaac (baptized 1816) and Susannah (1799-1868). One of James Averill's grandsons, Ebenezer Averill moved to Montgomery from Delaware Township in 1824 and taught school there for thirty years before retiring in 1881 as Principal of Parkland Academy. In 1830 David Denny founded Denny's Mill which soon became one of the most important commercial centers in central Ohio due to its location just east of the then newly formed Toledo Canal which connected with the Great Lakes through Cleveland and Pittsburgh. In 1840 he donated land for what would become downtown Montgomery; today this area contains many buildings that date back to that time including Main Street Baptist Church and First National Bank building which both stand still today! Fort Wayne native Nathaniel Prentice built a mill nearby on Cedar Creek in 1850 but it failed within a year due to low water pressure caused by an aquifer under his property! The town began to grow rapidly after this event as more settlers arrived, purchasing or leasing land around Denny's Mill until it had over 100 acres (40 hectares) leased by 1895! In 1859 when Cincinnati successfully petitioned Congress for statehood, Montgomery Joined Cincinnati as a municipality although it did not officially become a city until January 1st 1870 when Sanborns platting map showed two cities side by side with no major roads connecting them! At this point all transportation connections between Dayton/Canton/Muncie were via car so railroad companies such as THE GREAT WALKER LINE AND CN CONNECTIONS took advantage of this situation making Montgomery one of the larger Steel City Communities during these early days! On December 15th 1907 local citizens met at Ladd’s Store on College Avenue to organize their own fire department using donations from other communities across central Ohio!!! This was huge news as up until that point most fires were fought by volunteer firefighters!! In 1912 construction started on what would be known as “The Monastery” – now home to Rice University – becoming only the second building ever erected within downtown Montgomery!!!! By 1915 all streetcar lines had been abandoned so downtown business could take place on Market Street where many large businesses have stood since then including The GEICO Building currently located next door!! In 1916 movie theaters opened up throughout central Ohio with MONTGOMERY THE MISTY NIGHTS being Filmed here followed by WASHINGTON SQUARE opposite later becoming known as MACDOWELL STREET !! On October 5th 1920 African American Servicemen Barracks #5 served meals daily at 1615 Market St during World War I while also providing interior decorating services for Soldiers’ Families living near Warner Bros Studios! Other businesses that operated inside these barracks include Ford Auto Parts & Service Center (#1) machine shop (#2), Clothing store operated by Mrs Cagle & Son #3a Cash Register & Fried Chicken Shack #4a etc….. Many current structures dating back To World War II remain standing today including Parma Theatre Annex #5a currently used as office space for City Council members plus numerous other businesses which are vital parts of downtown Montgomery’s economy today!!!

Gunners had been able to use this type of swivel before, but it was not until 1945 that there was a design change which made it easier for them to use and maintain their weapon's aim at long range tasks. That year, American inventor Hoyt Arrington developed what is known as the "gunner's grip". This grip allowed shooters To keep their hands free while holding onto their firearm with one hand instead of having two hands spread out like traditionalists did before them!

However, some residents have returned over time to help maintain aspects of its cultural heritage such as its small-town atmosphere and local politics. Today, Montgomerys are known for their agriculture products (such as corn) and their winters as one of the coldest in Ohio.
Montgomery was founded in 1795 by the Potawatomi Nation. It became a town in 1827 and was known as "The Gateway to the Mohawk Valley." The town's first store opened in 1828. In 1849, Montgomery became a county seat and was renamed "Montgomery County" after its founder.
