There is a long, Gunslingers of Montgomery history. roots can be traced back to 1868 when John Friesen opened the first store in the city. The store was located on State Street and became known as "the Friesen Place." In 1912, George Wernick opened his own store on Second Street and it became known as "Wernick's corner grocery." In 1916, Alonzo Hogue opened his own store on Third Street and it became known as "Hogue's downtown." In 1922, Harry Hines open his first grocery store in Montgomery. The store was located at Fourth and Griggs Streets and is still in business today. In 1927, Wernick's Store closed its doors for good after more than 40 years in business. The following year saw the opening of two other stores within a few blocks of each other: the Ritchie Hardware Store on Fifth Avenue and the Jansen Drugstore on Sixth Avenue. This trend continued with further stores being added throughout the 1930s including Andy's Grocery on Eighth Avenue in 1937 (later renamed Andy's Discount Stores) and Gossage Shoes & ClothingStore at Tenth Avenue and Griggs Streets in 1938-39 (later renamed Gossage/Andy’s). During World War II, several local businesses were destroyed or damaged by bombing raids: Gossage Shoes & ClothingStore was bombed out during an area raid; Andy’s Grocery sustained damage from Japanese bombers; Ritchie Hardware Store was bombed out while inside during an attack by American forces; however, all employees survived. After the war ended, many of these same businesses reopened with new names: Hogue’s Downtown reopened as Hogue’s Supermarket; Gossage Shoes & ClothingStore reverted to its original name - Gossage/Andy’s - before becoming part of Kroger supermarkets; Andy’s Grocery reverted back to its original name - Andy’s Corner grocer - before becoming Kroger Markets Inc., still extant today.
Montgomery, Ohio is a town in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,868 at the 2010 census. The name Montgomery came from the location of a post office called "Montgomery" and was first applied to that village in 1836. The postal service discontinued mail delivery to Montgomery in 1869, so the town prospered byocause it had no need for it. The railroad arrived in 1911, and soon Montgomery became an important terminal point on the line. In 1940 the town's water supply was disrupted by a flu pandemic; however, development allowed for treatment of the water source and growth has continued since then.

Montgomery, Ohio is a city in Perry County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,471 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Perry County. The name "Montgomery" comes from English settlers who named the area after General Montgomery (1751-1828), an officer in the American Revolutionary War and one of George Washington's generals. The first post office in Montgomery was established on May 12, 1811 by James Barclay and John Sheppard. On November 8, 1821, it was renamed Montgomery after General Montgomery. On December 5th of that year George Washington laid out a town site for Montgomeryshire Township which included present day Montgomery and parts of what are now Delaware Township and Highland Township. In 1827 Colonel David Porter laid out plot 4square miles east of present day Dayton with a stop on his way to Washington Territory to purchase land for his plantation known as Portersville. This Plantation became known as "Porterstown". In 1830 Major Samuel Parsons organized a farm society here which purchased 640 acres (248 hectares) northeast of downtown Montgomery from Nicholas Latrobe for $2 per acre ($/ha). The land had been deeded to him by William Heninger in 1799 when he helped found Grange Hall colony near Xenia, Ohio along the Muskingum River Valley in what is now Perry County and Beverly County adjoining Pennsylvania Dutch territory. Parsons built some early mills on this property including those mentioned above but soon abandoned them because water power could not be developed until after railroads were built through central OhioPATHWAY ridges connecting Pittsburgh with Cincinnati via Cleveland On October 26th 1830 lots were sold for $3 per acre within 0 1/4 miles (0 .9 km) of each other at Fourth Street & Pearl Streets NW corner then bounded by Second Avenue SW corner then First Avenue NE corner today's Union Station Road intersection just south of I-675 exit ramp from I-675 going eastbound thenceousy southwest to Second Avenue NW corner today's Montgomerieshire Rd intersection also just south of I-675 exit ramp from I-675 going eastbound thenceousy northwest to Third Street EAST Corner today's Third Street WEST Corner Poverty Row Cemetery Site later called Ashley Cemetery also located on Third Street
Montgomery, Ohio (formerly Grant Township) was a township in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,564 at the 2000 census. It is now part of the Akron metropolitan area. The town of Montgomery was founded in 1824 by John Montgomery and others as a result of the surveying of land taken from the Seneca people by General George Washington during his Expedition to Great Britain. On December 15, 1825, it became a village under the name of "Montgomery". In 1828, it lost its charter as an independent town to Akron and became part of that city's municipal district. In 1836-37, it lost its status as an agricultural village when commercial farming activities replaced traditional agriculture in the community. In 1861-62, Montgomery participated in the American Civil War as part of Union forces under General Ulysses S. Grant's command. Afterward, it returned to its original township form with a population of 3,700 residents in 1865-66 and 514 residents at the 2000 census). As an agricultural village until 1861-62 and then as an incorporated township until 1972-73 due to changes in state government regulations affecting municipalities within counties), Montgomery experienced few industrial or economic developments until after World War II when large industries began moving into nearby Akron proper due to growth in manufacturing throughout America outside urban areas spearheaded by Detroit Auto Motor Company and other automakers; this led to increased development around downtownAkron and eastern suburbs since those areas were newly annexed into downtownAkron following World War II developments along downtownAurora Avenue which had been formerly east sideMunicipal District boundaries prior to 1948 were Jones Road/Main Street north (now US 42), Montague Road east (now Ionia Avenue), South Main Street south (now State Route 422), Commercial Drive west (now Business Park Circle at US 42). This increase in development caused problems for local taxpayers who were forced to provide more expensive infrastructure than they could afford while also experiencing decreased residential values adjacent their increasingly developed neighborhoods; these issues resulted in a tax revolt against annexation by downtownAkron following World War II which led eventually to Dayton's incorporation into that city on November 2nd 1948 effective with that year's general election
