In Montgomery, Ohio, the first handguns were brought into the community in 1836. The pistols were used primarily for hunting and protection. However, it wasn't until 1849 that a gunsmith was hired to create and improve firearms lubrication methods in order to prevent fouling and malfunctioning. The Gun Lube Company was founded in 1875 by C. H. Wethington and Prentice Mulford as a business venture to provide superior firearm lubrication products at an affordable price point for Ohio law enforcement officials, hunters, farmers, and other civilians who relied on firearms for their personal safety. In 1908, the company moved its manufacturing center from Dayton to Montgomery due to increased competition from other manufacturers of firearm lubricants. The company continued production of its own line of lubricants until it closed its doors in 1951. Today, the legacy of Gun Lube Company continues through the use of their products by individuals statewide who rely on firearms for their personal security.

One of the earliest known varieties of oil was called " journalistic," which was composed of animal fat and beeswax. The first commercial anti-rust rifle lube was created by Franz Reichelt in 1892. By 1898, there were various types of rifles being manufactured with different levels of detail and so it was necessary to find a reliable oil that would not corrode during use. A year later, John Browning developed an oil that became known as "Barrett" because it originated from his company, Barrett Firearms Manufacturing Incorporated (BFM). It consisted of petroleum jelly compounded withareth acid and castor oil. This product had success in preventing rust on all types of firearms including cannons and rifles shipped throughout World War 1. In the 1920s, Japan began importuning the United States for technology in ammunition production so American manufacture ceased completely at this time due to technical limitations on Japanese ammunition production (see Ammunition). However, postwar rifle lubricant development continued through government contracts with private companies such as military contractor Alcoa who supplied high quality oils under the General Electric brand name until 1971 when GE merged with Dow Chemical Company creating Unilever plc., which continues to make gun lubes today under a number of brands including Lubri-Q® (Unilever), Lube-X™ (Alcoa), Maxima® (Dow) and Xtreme® (Browning).

Montgomery is located in Montgomery County, Ohio, and has a population of over 50,000. The town was founded in 1811 by John Montgomery and his wife Nancy. It was named for General George Washington. In 1827, the town became part of the new Northwest Territory. The area now comprising Montgomery was included in the newly formed state of Ohio in 1830. In 1850, the town had a population of only 100 people; but it grew rapidly due to agricultural production and other businesses established there. By 1865, Montgomery had a population of 3,500 people and began to develop into an important center within the county. In 1870-71, construction began on the Montgomerysville Railroad which connected Montgomery with Columbus and other northern counties. This allowed for rapid growth in both the community and its economy. By 1880, Montgomery had become one of central Ohio's most prosperous towns. The post office at Montgomerysville was first established in 1812; but it wasn’t until 1846 that it changed its name to Montgomery because that is what General George Washington called it when he visited the town during his military campaigns against Native Americans near Fort Pitt (now Pittsburgh). When Ohio voters ratified a new constitution on November 4th, 1796 they also adoptedmontgomery as their official name for this portion of Central Ohio – meaning “the place where Countess Georgia lived” according to history books written at that time – thus making this one of America’s earliest incorporated municipalities[1]. The first store opened up here on East High Street on October 1st1829[2]. For many years this land lay fallow while farmers used Indian corn fields as grazing lands; but around 1840 railways arrived bringing industry with them including mills which produced flour for local consumption as well as exporting raw materials such as lumber to surrounding states such as Pennsylvania[3] One can still visit many early pioneer sites throughout downtown today where early settlers gathered after planting their crops or building homes: Green Stairs Cemetery (founded c1815), Union Mill (established c1825), Trustee House (c1793), Clergyman’s Home (c1800), Mrs Addams House (founded c1768)[4], etc… Many streets still carry their original names from those days including High Street/Washington Avenue/Montgomery Road/Eighth street/Griffin Avenue/Pioneer avenue etc…. Today we enjoy excellent walking trails through our charming cityscape complete with antique stores & nightlife throughout!
Montgomery, Ohio was originally settled in 1795 by George Washington and his family. The town was named for General James Montgomery, who fought in the American Revolution. The first store in Montgomery opened in 1811. The town rapidly grew, as did its population. In 1825, Montgomery became a city and was renamed after Philadelphia, Pennsylvania's mayor at the time, John Fenton Montgomery. In 1868, the city annexed part of Defiance Township. In 1915, the city annexed a portion of Zionsville Township to form an even larger municipality called Montgomery Village.
