Montgomery is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the seat of Montgomery County. The population was 21,713 at the 2010 census, making Montgomery the most populous municipality in Montgomery County. The city was founded by Welsh immigrants in 1814 on land granted to them by James K. Polk after he became president of the United States. It was named for General John Custer, who had fought in the Mexican-American War and died during that conflict at the age of 25 years old while leading an Indian force into Mexico City. In 1872, Dayton began annexing portions of Montgomery County and Soquel became a part of Montgomery when Dayton annexed it from Soquel Township. In 1924, Dayton annexed neighboring Steubenville Township as well; these actions created what is now called "Montgomery Heights." In 1951, construction began on Interstate 75 which passed through downtown Montgomery and united it with neighboring Independence Township; this action made Montgomery one of only two cities (the other being Cleveland) in Ohio with a interstate highway system within its borders. The city has since seen an increase in development including several million dollars invested into transit projects which have improved transportation options for both residents and workers throughout the city center as well as outlying neighborhoods such as Westmont and Southpark Center. Today, Montgomery is known for its cultural attractions such as its theater district featuring Regal Cinemas across from NorthPark Mall - home to several high-end restaurants - as well as its art galleries and museums which include Monterey Park Museum of Art, Glass House Museum/Museum Campus Gallery & Sculpture Garden, Walters Art Museum/National Palace Museum Collection + Asian American Studies Center + Library System Field Office + Police Department Headquarters Building - all located within walking distance or just minutes' drive away from each other across three different districts: Downtown District (containing Regal Cinemas), Midtown District (home to several small business districts), and Outlying Neighborhoods District (offering more than just shopping opportunities).

By this time, Montgomery had become one of America's most important fur-trading towns – trading goods such as tobacco and wool to Native Americans all over North America. In 1865, Montgomery became a county seat when it was added to Ohiopyle County as part of the Kanawha Valley district west of Cincinnati due to growing demand from miners in that region for farmland around Dayton (the new county center). The growth here continued through annexation by other counties during the late 19th century – including Hamilton in 1901 and Ross Township in 1911 – but until World War I there was very little development here aside from agriculture or housing development (mostly single-family homes). During World War I, however, things began to change: munitions plants were built along the Scioto River near present-day Dayton so that parts of Europe could be supplied with materiel needed for war effort; jobs opened up at local mills; and aluminum production started nearby in Moraine Park (now Cincy) making Montgomery one of America's Leading Aluminum producer cities. This growth led to more than 2 dozen businesses opening up between 1919 and 1929 alone; many which remain active today such as Anglo American Corporation (AAC), Coca Cola Company Manufacturing Company (CCM), First American Bank & Trust Company (FABCO), Goudreau Paper Products Inc., Pepsi-Cola Bottling WorksCompany(PEPWCO), United States Rubber Co.(USRUBE) – among others still in operation today! One key factor behind this growth has been Interstate 75 which runs through downtown Toledo close to where timberland used to cover much of what is now downtown: muchunlike later decades when inner city areas have taken over much commercial space vacated by manufacturing plants closed down or bought out by broader economic forces. In recent years some redevelopment has occurred around Interstate 75/Mahoning Avenue corridor eastward into neighborhoods like Middletown since streetcar service ended there about 10 years ago while continuing passenger service provides access onto downtown via Interstates 71/75}; nevertheless many businesses remain located within core communities within Downtown Toledo limits
