Montgomery is a small town in Wayne County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,853 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Montgomery was Nicholas Carpenter in 1814. In 1832, David Wells established a store and post office here. The town started as a farming community with soil that was too rich to be worked well but good for growing corn and other crops. A branch of the Erie Canal passed through Montgomery in 1840, which made it an important transportation center for much of central Ohio until the 1920s. In 1855, the Ohio legislature created what is nowWayne County and incorporated Montgomery into it as its county seat. The first courthouse was built here in 1861; it burned down in 1909. It took another decade before shops and churches were built in downtown Montgomery (and much later across town on Main Street). By 1873, when Ohio became a state, some 8 percent of the workforce in central Indiana had moved to Montgomery to join industrial production jobs during what is known as "the great inland migration." In 1915-16, after World War I ended and federal troops left central Ohio for home leave, African American sharecroppers began moving into Montgomery from southern Wayne County to work on farms owned by white landowners there while they awaited their own food stamps or other government assistance that would enable them to buy land or start businesses of their own (the Great Migration). This initial wave of black settlement led to more integration over time into white society than had been seen anywhere else east of Columbus during this era – including Cleveland where African Americans constituted about 20 percent of the population by 1960 according to US Census figures – although there were occasional outbreaks such as violence against "coloreds" that continued until after World War II ended all interstate racial discrimination nationwide

Montgomery, Ohio is a small town in the U.S. state of Ohio that was founded in 1803 by James Montgomery and his family. The town later became a part of the Cincinnati metropolitan area and is now considered an important cultural and historic center for Cincinnati, Ohio. The first permanent European settlement in what is now Montgomery was made on July 12, 1781 by Captain John Montresor and his men from the USS George Washington under command of Colonel Thomas Palmer during the American Revolutionary War. The original village had a population of only six people when it was platted out on November 2, 1803 by James Montgomery Sr., Jr., also known as "the discoverer" of Montgomery Township. In 1807, David Ladd opened up a post office at what is now known as Village Hall with two mailboxes to serve both the original Montgomery villages of Allatoona and Westville plus parts of neighboring Union Township; Beavercreek was annexed into Union Township in 1827. In 1830, John Catson established himself as one of the early merchants in Amherstburg County when he built a store there on High Street just north of present-day Amherstburg Avenue. By 1840, all but one male inhabitant (John Aiken) were farmers; Aiken set up shop near where he still lives today along Third Street east of Main Avenue between Harrison Road and Highland Boulevard (now Phenix City Road). As development increased around town, it became necessary to build more roads to handle traffic and provide access to goods being transported into or away from town via wagon train trails across this portion of North America at that time virgin territory claimed by Spain as part of their vast New World empire. Over time theselater called "arterial streets" such as Fifth Street would be widened into high-speed thoroughfares with sidewalks providing easy access for pedestrians while motorcycle riders enjoyed exclusive useofarterial streets until after World War II when they were converted back into principal arterials following heavy truck traffic growth on Interstate 75 northbound close to city limits which has retarded interchange reconstruction projects going forward more than 50 years since those arterials were re-numbered
Montgomery, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Montgomery County. The population was 85,711 at the 2010 census. It is considered to be part of Cleveland–Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city was founded in 1814 as a village on the east side of what is now Lake Erie by General John Forbes and James K. Polk during the Englewood Purchase Treaty days following the end of the American Revolutionary War. The first post office was established in 1815 and became known as "Greenville." In 1830, land grantees from Pennsylvania named Colesville Township were organized into a town under territorial government; but it did not gain official recognition until 1840 when Montgomery Township gained its current name from George Washington Montgomery, 2nd Baron Fairfax (1784-1861). In 1834, a new courthouse was built on Yale Avenue with plans to serve as both an appellate court and justice of peace for all Greene County; however this project never materialized because hydropower could not be developed to generate electricity enough to power such an expensive structure. In 1852, after Henry Clay had been elected President and Great Britain negotiated their backstop agreement with France providing for protectorate status for Canada if that country went through economic difficulties, Montgomery began construction on a new streetcar line called the Green Line which connected Cleveland with Akron via Dayton (the first electric streetcar line opened in America). On July 1st 1861, while fighting took place near Dayton between Confederates commanded by Union Brigadier General Philip Sheridan and Confederate Colonel Abel Johnston’s cavalry unit northwest of Cincinnati OH,[1] Lord Fairfax died suddenly at his home just before 10pm EDT due to natural causes including gouty fever contracted while hunting game near Fort Pittsburgh PA.[2] As war continued engulfing America—and more Americans volunteered for military service than ever before—Montgomery quickly started preparations for war potential as well;[3] soon after he received word that Lord Fairfax had left instructions for him “to erect upon this estate . . .a large octagon tower or weathervane bearing an inscription erected by meatus pro nobis” commemorating his death during battle outside Dayton only two weeks prior – thus fulfilling Arlington House prophecy about Montgomery becoming “the great American capital” during wartime times! Consequently early works included erection of several large wood blocks used within today's Independence Hall complex complete with dome/turret surmounted by spire completed November 15th 1862 just one month shy of three years since Lord Fairfax's death! Unfortunately despite many public appearances throughout 1862 & 1863 proclaiming preparedness & joint military efforts continuing unabated even amidst high tensions across North america[4], actual hostilities did not begin until April 1865 when Confederate general Lee surrendered at Appomattox Court House VA later that year…………….. The city has seen various incarnations throughout its history: "The original village site lay along what is now Erie River on land Granted by George Washington Montgomery to James K Polk"[5]. In 1830 Greenville became known as "Montgomery", although no post office operated there until 1835[6]. After Kentucky seceded from Virginia in 1861, much development occurred around Independence Hall which served as both courthouse and army depot before finally becoming downtown Montgomery proper in 1865[7]. During World War II much production took place nearby at Hillman Shipyards plant which produced USS Enterprise (CV-6) & USS Yorktown DD-8
