The Monroe Rifle and Pistol Club was founded in 1892 by five men who were interested in shooting targets. The first target holders club meeting was held on July 4th, 1892 at the home of E.B. Spears. The club began to use a large rock as its target, which it called the "Big Rock". The club moved to the basement of the Lewis-Hickman house in 1893. In 1896, they built their own range outside of town and began using clay pigeons instead of rocks as their targets. In 1907, the Monroe Rifle and Pistol Club changed its name to the Monroe Rifle and Pistol Association (MRPA). In 1912, they built their own clubhouse on Main Street in Monroe. The MRPA continued using clay pigeons for their targets until 1927 when they switched to steel plates for their targets. They also used handguns for target shooting from this time forward. In 1932, the MRPA merged with another rifle and pistol club, the Bloomingdale Rifle and Pistol Club (BRPC), to form what is now known as Lima Shooting Sports Clubs Incorporated (LSCI). LSCI continued using pistols for target shooting until 1958 when they switched back to rifles for all competition purposes. From 1958 through 1966, LSCI operated out of a new building on Green Road SE in Lima which served as our main range location until we moved into our current location on South State Street SE in 2006!

Monroe is a small town in the U.S. state of Ohio, located about 15 miles southeast of Cleveland and about 25 miles northeast of Dayton. The population was 1,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton-Cleveland-Akron metropolitan area. The community was named for James Monroe, 5th President of the United States (1829-35). Monroe had been elected to Congress from Ohio as a Democrat in 1815 and again in 1819 but he did not run for president that year because he preferred to stay in Congress until his term expired at the end of that year. He then retired from politics and returned to his home state, where he resumed farming and served as collector of taxes. In 1830, he won election as governor of Ohio on the ticket with John Quincy Adams and became one of America's most powerful political figures during the height of American expansionism. In 1835, Monroe signed into law what is known as The Crawford Act, which gave legal sanction to Native American land acquisitions by private individuals without government consent or assistance; this event helped lead to what is known as The Trail Of Tears. After becoming president, Monroe worked hard to reduce tensions between Great Britain and its North American neighbors over issues such as trade restrictions and Americans' support for slavery (although he opposed it). His efforts paid off when new British Prime Minister John A. Macdonald made progress on negotiations leading up to Confederation (the creationof a new country comprising Canada, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia et al.) in 1867; after Confederation was achieved, Monroe Poland Treaty rewarded him with an impressive $5 million gift from his Polish counterpart Jan Kossuth – more than any other U.S.-Canada individual or organization combined!
