However—as with most industrial towns—the lure of big company headquarters often led to displacement of small-town residents within larger cities or townships around them; this process is also known as "urban renewal." In recent decades it has become increasingly difficult for small-town residents to maintain their traditional lifestyles without strong support from government programs like Medicaid or other forms of social welfare assistance; nevertheless, some communities have managed to maintain a certain level of cultural autonomy even as they have lost some aspects of their rural pasts.
Monroe is a census-designated place in the state of Ohio, United States. The population was 7,824 at the 2010 census.
