Monroe, Ohio is a small town in the Cincinnati metropolitan area. The population was 14,912 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton-Dayville, OH-KY-IN Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town is named after James Monroe, 2nd President of the United States and father of John Quincy Adams. The first settlement in what became Monroe was made on July 10, 1811 by Alexander Moncrieffe and others as a personal investment for Colonel George Rogers Clark in what would become Ohio. On December 16, 1815, when Henry Clay became the 3rd U.S. Representative from Kentucky to serve out his full term (3 years), he rode into town on horseback and noted that "This good old village [Monroe] has lately sprung up about us like an apple tree." On November 6, 1792, General Anthony Wayne destroyed a French fort at this location during his Battle of Fallen Timbers which helped end French control over southwestern Ohio. In 1800–01 Presley Surveyor General James Moncrieffe built Fort Washington on land patented to him by Governor Nicholas Biddle; it served as both a military post and village until 1800 when its site was changed to present day Monroe following Moncrieffe's purchase of 600 acres (2 ha) near what is now Fort Washington Park from Major David Allbright in 1800 for $1/acre (0·8 ha). The first settler in what became Monroe - Alexander Moncrieffe - arrived on July 10th 1811 with three burros after traveling all the way from Kentucky via Lebanon Valley Territories and West Virginia . Some say that one reason for naming Monroe after James Monroe’s father – John Quincy Adams – may be because many early settlers were able to provide financial support for James’ presidential campaigns during those two terms (1825-29). Others attribute it to monocular sightings by early explorers who noted several small villages near where modern day Monroe stands along with its well known rolling hills! Although some feel that there are many more interesting stories behind this little corner of America – including tales of pirates raiding nearby settlements – today few people live hereabouts due largely to restrictive zoning ordinances enacted decades ago which have kept most businesses shuttered since they were developed without any consultation or input from locals or their elected officials! However some enterprising individuals have recently begun restoring muchofthe original architecture & infrastructure while also creating new businesses&cultural experiences around town such as hosting arts festivals throughout springtime & falltime

Monroe was founded in 1785 by George Washington and his wife, Martha Washington. The town was named after the Monongahela River. Monroe is a small city in the northwest corner of Ohio, close to Pittsburgh and other major metropolitan areas. It has a population of about 20,000 people. Monroe was originally part of Westmoreland County. In 1800, it became part of Adams County. On May 15, 1821, Monroe became a town charter and adopted the name "Monroe". On December 12, 1825, Monroe became an independent state as the third county in Ohio. The first post office in Monroe was established on March 10, 1800. The first store in Monroe was established on October 9th of that year by John Prentice and others with local lumber being sold there until 1830 when a store built by Peter Slaughter opened on Main Street which continued to be run until 1906 when it closed due to business difficulties caused by prohibition laws passed at this time. A flour mill started operation at what is now known as Millstream Avenue in 1852 which continued operations until 1913 when it closed because of lack of patronage from customers who preferred to use other mills nearer their homes or bought flour elsewhere for sale locally A sawmill started operations operated out of what is now known as Smithfield Road between 1870-1872; however the mill ceased production after only six months because too much wood had to be cut down for building materials . A gristmill started operation on what is now know as South Main Street between 1865-1866; however it also stopped production within two years because Grains were not well accepted at that time due to high prices paid for wheat imported from Canada A large frame cotton gin began operating on what is now known as North Main Street between 1888-1889; however this facility also stopped production after producing only one ton per day due to limited space available . A locomotive factory began operations at what is now known as Factory Park east side between 1893-1895; however this plant did not produce machines but instead made parts for other factories around town . An engine works started operations adjacent to White’s Drug Store (now White’s Furniture) on Henderson Boulevard west side startingNovember 26th 1896 continuing until November 16th 1902 when it shut down due to lackadaisical management This company produced engines used by various manufacturers including Dayton Machine Works and Champion Engine Works before finally shutting down completely in 1905 . There are several interesting buildings located throughout downtown including: The old United States Post Office (now called First National Bank), State House Annexe (now occupied by University World Services), Old Treasury Building (formerly home of the sheriff’s department), Masonic Lodge No 1 (originally built for Masonic Lodge No 2 which later merged into Masonic Lodge No 1), High School Annexe (later home of Gateway Middle School) and many more buildings still standing today such As: The Armory Museum - formerly home Of de la Salle Catholic Chorale & American Legion Post #2 - also contains displays about early Monongalia County history Henderson Boulevard Library - former location Of Ives Department Store
