Bates & Sons mill (founded by John Cates), Trowbridge & Howe mill (founded by Amos Trowbridge), and Prentice Brothers& Co.'s sawmill (founded by Joseph Prentice). In 1839, Elijah White opened what would become known as White’s Drug Store at Seventh and Market Streets which quickly became an important stop for customers traveling between Dayton and OHDean Township along the canal route. This business served as a nucleus for later additions such as Methodist Episcopal Church built in 1865-67 on Third Street SE corner First Avenue NW, Home Insurance Agency Building erected in 1889-93 on Eighth Street SE corner Second Avenue NW also known as “The Friendly Shelter” owned and operated by Mrs Elias White until her death 21 years ago today; current day residence of Mrs Elisabeth Norris) – all now historical landmarks within walking distance or short drive from downtown Middletown residents!
