Middletown is one of the oldest towns in the United States and was founded by Pilgrims in 1795. It has been the home of Butler University since 1827 and many other high-profile institutions over the years including Case Western Reserve University, Youngstown State University, and Warren Community College. In recent years, Middletown has seen an increase in gun violence with several shootings taking place between 2005 and 2009. After World War II ended, approximately 85% of handguns still belonged solely to civilians . After Gun ControlAct was passed , many manufactures decided that they would no longer produce handguns without government permits so these guns would become subject matter for regulation again . This decision led to increases in handgun homicide rates beginning in 1951 due largely To higher demand for pistols by law enforcement officials wanting something more powerful than revolvers

Middletown was founded in 1795 by General James Moncrief and his wife, Elizabeth. The town was named for the Middletown River, which runs through it. The first post office in Middletown was established in 1801. In 1847, the first railroad station was built in Middletown. The town grew rapidly and by 1870 had over 1,000 residents. The Beech-Wright Brothers brewery became a major factor in the growth of Middletown. They started brewing beer there in 1868 and began selling it throughout Ohio and other states soon after. The brewery closed down in 1957 but left an important legacy on Middletown with its many years of production and contribution to the community. In 1952, a new high school was built within the limits of Middletown Borough (later renamed Green Township). It quickly became one of the largest high schools east of Chicago and continues to serve as a vital resource for students today. Middletony also played a significant role during World War II with its manufacturing capabilities helping contribute to troop morale and support efforts across the country.
