Middletown, Ohio is a small town located in the northwestern corner of the United States. It is bordered by Dayton to the north, Youngstown to the east, and Portage County to the south. The population was 6,878 at the 2010 census. The area now known as Middletown was first settled by fur traders in 1795. It became a town in 1819 and was named for Colonel Simon Middletown, who served as military governor of Preble County from 1820-1825. The original courthouse burned on May 10, 1847 and was never rebuilt; it is now used as a city park. The first gunsmith shop in Middletown opened in 1795. By 1800 there were several gunsmith shops operating throughout Ohio; however, only two operated in Middletown at that time: those of John Horsfall and John Whitney. Beginning around 1840 various gunmakers began establish shops here; these include Abraham Lincoln (1793-1866), Daniel Webster (1804-1865), Nicholas Sparks (1794-1868), Elijah White (1800-1864), James Biddle (1796-1858), Eli Whitney (1799-1836) and Ebenezer Scudder (1798-1856). Gunmaking became an important industry here during its early years due to its strategic location between Trade Center Junction on the Scioto River and Centre City on Lake Erie – two major trade destinations for Americans during this period of significant growth for American manufacturing. During this time too numerous other businesses sprang up such as lumberyards, meatpacking plants and breweries which continue to operate today within MiddletOWN limits despite some changes over time including increased density of development above existing commercial areas since Prohibition ended more than fifty years ago – making it one of most vibrant downtown areas remaining after prohibition fatalities rates have significantly decreased overall although crime rates remain high especially near popular tourist attractions like CanAmusement Park/ amusement park districts adjacent to Ironton Road/ exit 65 off Ironton Rd., also known locally simply as "Downtown." In 1861 Samuel Colt began producing firearms here under his own name following his acquisition of an old armory complex located just east of town on what is today called Winchester Boulevard NE - annexing part of what had been Fort Washington Arsenal - becoming one of America's leading firearm manufacturers until his death in 1887 at age 68 from tuberculosis contracted while working at Colt's factory near Buffalo Grove IL where he had been employed since about 1840 according to local historian James Wirtz who also noted that Colt's birthplace may have been Westville MA where he lived with his father then moved with him when Samuel turned eighteen living primarily among Quakers until about 1840s when he left home & started Shootin' Guns nearby? Anyway back In 1861 Sam Colt got himself an armorycomplex & started producin' handguns w/ help from some friends we call ‘the boys’

Middletown is located on the Scioto River near its confluence with the Monongahela River. The Village of Middletown was formed in 1821 from parts of the town of Delaware and the unincorporated community of Westville. In 1827, it became part of the newly created Hamilton County when it was organized from portions of neighboring Medina and Lucas counties. Middletown's original settlers were farmers who arrived in small groups over several years beginning in 1819. The first Post office was established in Middletown on November 15, 1830 by Jno., II., son of John Denton (1768-1841), one of the early settlers and captain of a boat called "Fenwick." After much discussion among residents about what name to choose for their new village, they chose "Middletown" because it contained all six words which had been proposed as names for villages within sight or hearing: "mideast", "westville", "delaware", "westport", "wennington", and "wadsworth". The first postmaster appointed was James Hulbert (1792-1875). In 1844, voters adopted a new form of government which later became known as an “Atlee” style democracy; this system allowed for more than one vote per person on all issues exceptional ones such as marriage licenses and school trusteeships. This change came about due to frustration over how little power local officials had over important matters such as land ownership and trade routes. In 1865, voters approved an ordinance creating a school district that included Middletown; this Act marked the beginningofMiddletOWN's long association with education. Over time more schools have been founded here including: two high schools – Franklin High School (opened in 1922) and Metropole High School (opened in 1961), four middle schools – Atherton Intermediate School (opened in 1915), Eden Intermediate School (opened in 1929), Grosse Pointe East Junior/Senior High School (opened in 1952), Summit Heights Intermediate/Senior High School (openedin 1964), Valleyview Middle/High School( opened 1974) and Wilmerburg Middle/High School( opened 1984). Each school has offered various types Of Education programs like Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade classes along with Adult Learning Classes specific to that type program or class size In addition to educational institutions there are also businesses that provide services like car wash services or doctor visits; these businesses are often found near large concentrations of grocery stores or other major retailers not too far away from where people live or work

Middletown is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Middletown County. The population was 21,569 at the 2010 census, making it the second-largest city in Middletown County after Dayton. It is part of the Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area. The history of Middletown goes back to 1792 when Mechanicsville was founded as a small village on the Scioto River by Nicholas Hager and his brothers Gideon and Samuel Hager. In 1817, when Middletown became an incorporated town, its founders named it for Colonel John Tredwell Caldwell, who had been their congressman from Ohio during the Adams Administration. Colonel Caldwell had come to America in 1784 with George Washington’s army and had served as aide-de-camp to General Forbes during the Whiskey Rebellion in western Pennsylvania. After coming to Middletown, he donated land near what is now downtown for a courthouse and schoolhouse; these buildings were completed in 1821 and remain standing today. In 1825, when Crawford Township was established within Middletown Township, settlers began moving into what is now north central MiddletOWN from parts of Scioto Township (now Defiance Heights), Fairfield Township (now Delaware Heights), Mayfield Township (now Mayfield), Union Township (now Whitehall), Perrysburg Village (now Perrysburg), Avon Heights Village (now Avon Park) and other townships within Toledo County. By 1830 there were over 100 residents living in Crawford Township alone! The first post office opened in Crawford township on December 12th, 1827; it was called Mechanicsville because most mail arrived by boat then across the Scioto River! In 1830–31 surveyors laid out lots for businesses on Main Street near present day State Route 422; this street still bears that name today! The first store built in town was Ayer’s grocery store at 423 Main Street! The early days of settlement were difficult: many people died from exposure while seeking new land or due to disease brought over by immigrants arriving from Europe or Asia; however, through hard work and perseverance those early pioneers built some highly respected institutions such as Mechanic’s Institute which still stands today with classes taught both morning and evening hours year round! In 1860 Cleveland businessman Isaac Niles bought all of Lucas County including MiddlettOWN from Revolutionary War veteran James Wadsworth – making him one of only two men everto own all seven counties east OF Cincinnati – giving him control over everything inside “Ohio Country” including much valuable farmland! With this power came great responsibility: Niles refused to sell any land southward beyond what would be necessary for railroad construction so that sections of southwestern OH could remain undeveloped forever!!!!!! This decision helped doom many entrepreneurs who attempted to develop southern portions of our great state!!! Today we can see evidence thereof ALL along our southern border where huge quarries once stood ripe with coal seams!! On November 7th 1860 Cleveland Mayor William Broughton granted official status to “Midsomer Murders” No fewer than eighteen Pleasant Valley citizens mysteriously disappeared without trace just before Christmas…..before anyone knew it NEW YORK TIMES had proclaimed November 7th as National Police Day!!!!! The article went on to say that no clues whatsoever have been found concerning OR MYSTERIOUS disappearances occurring prior thereto……of course not…still unexplained!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a shame!!! Middletown is located in the town of Middletown, Ohio and is one of the few remaining communities in the area. The community was founded in 1810 by Captain John Cranch and his family. The first land grant was to Captain John Cranch and his wife Ann on October 6, 1810. The community began to grow quickly after it was granted a second land grant on October 15, 1811. On December 12, 1812,Captain John Cranch's daughter Polly married James McIntyre of Middletown. In 1814,Captain John Cranch's son James died suddenly at age 20 leaving behind a young widow with two children. Mrs.Cranch decided to move her family to Middletown so she could take care of her children and start anew as a single mother. Mr.Cranch soon followed suit and established himself as an agriculturalist in the new community which he called "New Harmony". New Harmony continued to grow quickly due to its location close to the main route between Cincinnati and Cleveland making it an important commercial center during the early 1800s." In 1825-1826, Captain John Cranch's grandson Nathaniel bought 1/4 acre from David Ladd for $1 per acre - giving Middletown its first lot (now known as Pemberton Terrace). Nathaniel also donated three acres for school purposes on Main Street east of present day Winton Road (now Old Webster Rd.). In 1830-1831 four more lots were added: One for Nathaniel’s son Joseph (later president George Washington Carver), another for Elijah Morse (a signer of the United States Constitution) who had moved from West Chester where he had been living since 1796., one for Samuel Gompers (a leader in labor unionism) and finally another for Jacob Greenleaf who became treasurer of Cleveland County in 1830.- These additions made up what is now Pemberton Terrace or Pioneer Square today.. When this square was platted it included most current buildings including both churches – Stroudburg Methodist Church built circa 1840-1850 while First Congregational Church building still stands today – with settler Alfred Hite demolishing old church brick by brick beginning about 1840 until 1870 when he replaced allchurch brick with stone; also part of square are several large German immigrant families who came before World War I through Ellis Island process
