Middletown is a town in the U.S. state of Ohio, located just east of the Akron metropolitan area on the edge of the Sandusky Valley and between Middletown Township and Summit Township. The population was 11,855 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton–Canton–Middletown, OH, Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in what is now Middletown was Nicholas Hales in 1796. In 1814, David Wilkinson founded a grist mill here which became known as Wilkinson's Mill after him. Middletown's first post office was established in 1821. By 1830, there were ten stores and three hotels in town with a population of 350 people. The first school was built in 1837 and teacher Mrs. Denton taught until 1863 when it moved to new quarters on Main Street across from Wilkinson's Mill before returning to MiddletOWN School District No 1 for thirty-five years until it closed in 1978 In 1847, Elijah Hicks founded Hicks' Store which became one of the most important early businesses hereabouts due to its wide variety of goods available at low prices including groceries, saddles, wagon wheels and other items needed by farmers during this period In 1862 local resident James Wohlstedt donated land to create what would become Middletown Stadium for athletic events such as track meets and football games Later that year an addition to the original stadium included locker rooms/teams rooms (now used as apartments) for players on both sides of the football field while also providing space for community meetings inside or outside the stadium One hundred years later – on July 8th 2020 – The iconic FirstEnergy Tower arrived into townscape adding much needed energy security & affordability with over 60 floors!

Middletown, Ohio is a community located in the southeast corner of Summit County, Ohio, United States. The population was 3,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Lakewood-Middletown, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. Middletown was founded in 1824 by religious refugees from Great Britain who had come to escape religious persecution there. The original town site was on a small island in the Miamisburg River and it consisted of just over 100 homes. The first post office opened in 1825 and service continued until 1888. The town grew quickly due to its location and easy access to transportation including trains from Cleveland and Akron. By 1830, Middletown had a store, two schools, a church, three churches (one Episcopal), five taverns and 25 more residences. In 1836-37 an act was passed authorizing the erection of three new townships – Bigelow Township on the east side of the river; Price Township onthe west side; and Newmark Township onthe north side – each with a population of 500 residents maximum. In 1850-51 an act was passed authorizing construction of what would become Fruitland Avenue which linked Middletown with other settlements along this important connector road including AllentOWN (later Independence), Perrysburg/Youngstown, Portsmouth/Linganville and Steubenville/Boardman. This addition increased trade between these communities as well as giving people living near Middletown easier access to goods arriving south via this route. During World War II many residents left for military service but by 1945 all but one farmstead had returned home having lost their property or been destroyed during Combat Zone warfare that ran throughout much of Summit County during that time period. Thanks to postwar growth efforts led by Mayor John Fenton along with support from local businessmen Gustavus Wertheim & Julius Rosenwaldt followed by industrial development spearheaded by company president Albro Lewis – mowing lawns for General Motors plants at Oldsmobile Assembly Plant and building retail stores such as Sears Roebuck & Co.–Middletown emerged as one of America’s most prosperous small towns during this era characterized also by strong social Democratic Party representation both at city government level through Mayor Fenton as well as township trusteeship extending beyond school board into other important arenas such as housing developments (ecclesiastical) / factories (industrial) / light industrial projects (Horseshoe Casino). These successes were solidified following Fenton’s death in 1978 when his son Dalton took office becoming known locally for his stewardship over various civic institutions such as library services / Parks & Recreation while continuing active participation within local politics serving terms up through 2017 when he retired after being appointed Trustee Emeritus effective January 1st., 2018 having served since November 15th., 2017 succeeding his father Dalton who had held that position since 1982 until his retirement effective January 1st., 2018; making him one generation removed from holding political offices within our village although we are still governed under principles laid out by our founder back in 1824!
