In 1814, Middletown became an incorporated town when it included all of what is nowLucas County except for the portion lying east of US- 23 between Middletown and Defiance (now Findlay). The town meeting act approved by the state legislature granted voting rights to women on October 9, 1814. On November 8th, Samuel Morse – one of America’s early railroad pioneers – erected a wooden frame schoolhouse here which served as a model for similar structures throughout Ohio until brick buildings started being built in this style around 1850 In 1830, surveyors discovered valuable coal seams under Middletown; soon thereafter coalmining began operations there. By 1840, over 50% of all Lucas County’s production came from mining activities alone Middletown experienced several rounds of fire during American Civil War: on July 6th 1863 two cannons discharged over MiddletOWN while Union forces were skirmishing near Peebles Bridge; on September 3rd 1865 three guns fired into the air over town as Confederate soldiers burned down homes north of Market Street On December 8th 1861 General Nathan Bedford Forrest cavalry crossed Little Miami River at Northport Bridge and quickly advanced towardsMiddletown where he camped about four miles northeast along State Route 23 before moving northeast again to encampment near present daydefiance This attack occurred during OccupationOhio campaign led by General Ulysses S Grant which aimed to end Reconstruction efforts following the American Civil War

Middletown is a small town in northeastern Ohio, United States. The population was 9,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbus metropolitan area. Middletown is located on the Scioto River in Wood County and lies within the Greater Cleveland metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in what would become Middletown was James Kidd, who arrived in 1788. By 1814, settlement had increased to include a few hundred people who lived on a series of small farms around the present-day downtown square. In 1824, General Nathan Bedford Forrest's army traveled through the area and destroyed most of the local Indians', including Kidd's father-in-law and brother-in-law; this event is generally known as "The Action at Middletown". Middletown's development began with its incorporation as a village by an act of the Ohio General Assembly on November 1, 1828. The new village had a total population of just over 100 residents and consisted only of a courthouse and jail. On July 4, 1830, voters approved amendments to the Constitution providing for township status which became effective October 1st. In 1847–1848 during Reconstruction period following American Civil War, many African Americans moved into Middletown from surrounding townships to take advantage of new opportunities created by Reconstruction (the process that ended white supremacy throughout much of America). This migration led to enlargement of MiddletOWNs' borders from one half mile wide at their original incorporation to two miles by 1907 when all but one block eastward was annexed into newtown limits becoming known as "West Side." In 1870 due to railroad construction near Chillicothe Junction (now Defiance), more people started moving into West Side Middletown; this growth led to annexation by Chillicothe in 1893 making it technically part of Middletown once again until its annexation by Cincinnati in 1898 completed its reunion with West Side officially. During World War II many men entered service from across Northeast Ohio and were employed by military suppliers such as Ford Motor Company stationed here including Major Donald Boggs who helped develop Ironton Township adjacent to current day Lawrenceburg Heights neighborhood outside OFD headquarters during World War II
Middletown was founded in 1792 by General David Wilkinson. The town became a city in 1836 and it was made the county seat of Morgan County in 1853. The town had a population of 54,521 in 2010.
