Middleburg Heights is a small town in the far southeastern corner of Ohio, United States. The population was 3,814 at the 2010 census. Middleburg Heights is part of the Springfield–Warren County, Ohio Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community name derived from its location on High Ridge Road, which ran along the edge of a high plateau overlooking the village and surrounding valleys. In 1848, when Union General Ulysses S. Grant visited this area during his victorious campaign against Jacksonian Democracy in central Ohio, he called Middleburg Heights "the most beautiful spot on earth." Middleburgh Heights began as an agricultural community with modest beginnings. A family named Addison purchased land near what is now the intersection of High Ridge Road and Ulysses S. Grant Avenue in 1849 and started to cultivating crops there. By 1860, they had developed a small town with shop and five homes on High Ridge Road between Oak Street and Broadway Boulevard; it contained about 100 residents. Addison died in 1865 without children to take over his business operations so much as run the community until it became a township in 1870; however, by that time only one home remained standing in what is now Middleburg Heights Township. The first school opened for students in 1870; construction began on what would become known as Market Square Drive (now Elm Street) just north of Center Street; it was built using materials gathered from miles around to build market square stands that still exist today including ones located at 353 Elm street NW and 330 Market Square Drive NE among others In 1875, John Matson founded JMR Manufacturing Company which manufacturedeknife blades at what is now 249 Elm Street NW In 1903 after purchasing Beecham’s grocery store at 433 Elm street NW we renamed our company JMR Stores Incorporation That same year we opened our new Store #326 Walton avenue east of I-675 which served all of Warren County up until 1938 when we closed our store due to lack of demand
