Middleburg Heights is a city in Butler County, Ohio, United States. The population was 11,539 at the 2010 census. Middleburg Heights is part of the Cleveland metropolitan area. Middleburg Heights was platted in 1836 as a village by John Evans and others, but it did not form part of the current city until 1892 when it was annexed by Cleveland. The first post office in Middleburg Heights was established in 1846. The name "Middleburg" originated from a farmstead on the east side of town which served as an early stopping point for travelers on their way to Ashtabula and Fairfield counties. The original downtown buildings were destroyed by fire in 1907, but new buildings were built soon afterward. In 1916 Mayor George Hynes sponsored legislation providing for street lighting and other public improvements in what had been an agricultural community. That same year, middle school opened and soon became one of the largest high schools in Cleveland with over 1,000 students enrolled. It wasn't until after World War II that Middleburgh Heights experienced significant growth due to its location near both major steel mills and heavy industry. Manufacturing plants closed during the war while other industries such as agriculture increased activity; however, many manufacturing jobs have since disappeared because of automation or global competition. During this time period also occurred some of the most notorious crimes in Cleveland history including shootings at night outside local nightclubs frequented by young men seeking excitement or intoxication; these cases led to intensified police patrols throughout the neighborhood and helped change perceptions about crime rates within Brownsville-Warren-Middletown-Old Newark Township (later known as Midtown Cleveland). In 1932, American scientist Frederick Schiele designed what is still considered to be the world's first true fully transparent sunglass, which featured a spherical mirror positioned over each eye for viewing without obstruction. By 1937,sunglasses had become common public attire and were available in both men and women varieties. During World War II, use of optics for military purposes led to development of new sophisticated technologies such as radar, night vision goggles, sonar devices, and more sophisticated weapons systems. Some optical components used in these devices included bulletproof glass, filters to reduce glare, nearsightedness correction surgery tools (loops andeyeglasses), periscopes (sighting devices used while flying or swimming), artificial eyes (Gestalt fields), man-portable surface-to-air missiles (MIMICs), laser rangefinders/aimers/telescopes/image intensifiers/laser printers/focusing screens etc., which have helped make modern warfare possible today.

The town was named for Mount Lebanon, located in Pennsylvania, where Captain Middleburg had served as a soldier during the Revolutionary War. The first post office was opened in 1800, and it remained in operation until 1854. In 1841, Middleburg Heights became part of the newly formed township of Defiance. When Defiance was dissolved in 1853, Middleburg Heights reverted to its original name.
