Gun slings have been a part of Ohio society for centuries. In the early 18th century, firearms were not common in the region, and people relied on sling shots to take down game. These gunslingers would fasten their belts with small pegs to make a bag that could be carried around with them, and use it as a weapon when necessary. The first gun slings used by Ohioans were made from animal intestines or cloth. They would loop one end of the intestine over an arm or shoulder, then put the other end around a tree branch or another sturdy object. This method was very unstable and required some practice to use effectively, but it worked well enough for early settlers. As firearms became more common in Ohio, gunners began using different types of slings to take down game. The earliest known examples of this type of sling are from 1793 and date back to Captain John Cushing’s military expedition into Canada. For many years after that, gunslingers used these new weapons to take down large game animals such as deer and bear. Gun slings gradually replaced traditional bows and arrows as the go-to weapon for shootinggame in America during the 19th century. After becoming popularized through movies like ,slung arrows became increasingly popular among outdoor enthusiasts across America beginning in the 1920s when finally accurate repeating rifles emerged which allowed shooters to target multiple targets at once with ease

The community was founded in 1836 by John Middleburg and his family. It was named for middleburgh estate in Scotland where Middleburg and his parents had located their farmstead before moving to America. In 1892, the village of Midhurst merged with Middleburg Heights. Middleburg Heights has a post office (1936–present) and two churches: First Baptist Church (founded 1893) and Presbyterian Church of Christ (1892). The school district that serves Middleburg Heights is the Mahoning Valley School District. There are also several businesses including KFC, Subway, Goodyear tire store, Ford dealership and Home Depot. The local newspaper is "The Daily Review". Middleburgh Heights is home to many summer events such as watermelon festivals, apple orchard festivals and cornhole tournaments which take place throughout late July/early August while much of the fall schedule focuses on Christmas trees or parade attractions like Grinchmas parade or Big Apple parade & car show etc...

Middleburg Heights is located in the state of Ohio and has been a part of the United States since 1796. The city was named for Colonel Nicholas Middleburgh, who served as an aide to General George Washington during the American Revolution. In 1814, Middleburg Heights was incorporated as a town and it remained that way until becoming an independent city in 1902. Middleburg Heights is now a part of the Cleveland metropolitan area. The population of Middleburg Heights reached 31,826 in 2000 and is expected to reach 40,000 by 2020. The history of Middleburg Heights goes back to before its incorporation into Ohio as a town. In 1814, Colonel Nicholas Middleburgh served as an aide to General George Washington during the American Revolution and he donated land to make up for his lack of land holdings within British territory. When Columbus founded the colony of Virginia in 1755, he noted that there were no Native Americans living within its boundaries and so he named his new settlement "Middleburg." However, due to Indian attacks on European settlements throughout North America during this time period, middle burg was renamed "New Town" on October 15th, 1756 because there was no other name available at that time for what would become Ohio's first permanent European settlement. In 1800, Judge Isaac Wright purchased 640 acres from Nicholas Middleburgh in order to create what would become known as "Middleborough Township." This township covers present-day Maplewood Township and portions of New Town Township in central Ohio. It consisted mostly of agricultural land with some buildings being erected only after 1800. By 1814 when it became an independent town within Ohio, Middleburgh had donated over 1/4 acre (0.28 km2) out of his total 2 acres (0.76 km2) donation for development purposes within the new town limits which included parts of Maplewood Township today along with New Town Township east thereof including present day South Euclid Avenue between East Grandview Boulevard & White Oak Road). Middleburg Heights was founded in 1815 by John Middleburg and his wife Charity. The community was named for the middle distance between two points on the Scioto River. In 1833, Middleburg Heights was annexed by Athens Township. In 1903, Athens Township merged into Cincinnati County and Middleburg Heights became part of the new township. The community experienced a rapid growth during the 1920s as a result of its location near the University of Louisville, which opened its doors in 1924. However, during World War II, much of the commercial activity in Middleburg Heights switched to Indiana because of wartime demand for materials produced in Ohio. The population declined after the war and stopped growing until it reached its current level around 2000.
