Middleburg Heights is part of the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area and is located east of Dayton on the Scioto River. The community was founded in 1875 as a town by Nathan Bedford Forrest and others who purchased land east of Dayton from the Shawnee Nation. Middleburg Heights grew rapidly during World War II as many soldiers were stationed here as part of the military defense program in central Ohio. After the war, many families moved out to middle-class homes in other towns across central Ohio but Middleburg Heights remained an economically active center for several decades before experiencing a decline during the late 1990s and 2000s due to suburban growth around it and reductions in federal funding for urban development projects statewide. However, recent revitalization efforts have begun to reverse this trend and Middleburg Heights has seen steady growth since its return to prosperity in early 2019. Middleburg Heights is located at (40·2°N 97·9°W). It shares borders with Middletown to its north, Centerville to its east, Wellstown to its south, Eatonville to its west, and Sylvania Township to its northwest. According to the United States Census Bureau, it has a total area of , all of it land. As of the census[10] of 2010, there were 9,711 people residing in Middleburgh Heights.. The racial makeup was 98% White; 0% African American; 0% Native American; 1% Asian; 0% Pacific Islander; 2% from other races; and 2% from two or more races

Middleburg Heights is a census-designated place in Scioto County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. Middleburg Heights is located on the Scioto River east of Dayton and west of Xenia. It is part of the Dayton–Muncie Metropolitan Statistical Area. In 1824, George Washington "Wash" Smith bought three hundred acres (1 km²) along the Scioto River south of present day Middleburg Heights for $2 per acre (0.8 km²). Over time, Wash purchased more and more land until he had over four thousand acres (16 km²) in today's Middleburg Heights. The community was named after Wash's home town in Virginia which he left to his son George Washington Smith Jr., also known as "Wash." The first school in what is now Middlebury Heights was built on First Baptist Church property in 1828. In 1868, when it became clear that an expanding township would need new schools, trustees voted to build a new school on Post Road southwest of present day Middleburgh Heights. The first building was completed in 1870 and served as the township's high school until 1958 when it became part of the Dayton School District.. In 1920, during World War I, soldiers from nearby Camp Butler were quartered at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base while their units were stationed near Xenia and Dayton. Thanks to this Seneca Indian Wars Veterans Memorial Park dedication by Mayor James Condon and Township trustee Clyde Davenport on November 15th 1920 all Camp Butler veterans who fought or serve within Turner Field may be buried there with full military honors possible only if approved by both local dignitarys! With so manyWWI veterans living locally we can only imagine how much memory remains from that war still hanging around these parts 50 years later! On February 24th 1937 Driggs Wernick opened his medical office at 5 West Main Street where he operated successfully for 38 years before retiring to live out his final days at 86 West Main Street - one block away from his original office! Driggs Wernick helped lead not just middleBURGHHEIGHTS but also Xenia and Dayton into becoming communities large enough to have their own post offices functioning effectively after those early pioneer days! This milestone event occurred during a time when most businesses closed up shop due to the Great Depression; however Driggs' surgery kept many families running despite difficult times throughout 1938!"
Middleburg Heights was founded in 1792 by George Washington and his family. It was a part of the Northwest Territory and it was named for Middleburg, Virginia, which he had recently explored. The town developed around a small school, store, and post office. In 1814, Middleburg Heights became a part of the Union City Township. It declined in population after World War II but has since regained its former glory as a bedroom community for the city of Cleveland.
