The name Middleburg Heights may derive from a word meaning "middle place." George Washington's home in Middleburg Heights was used as a military hospital during the American Revolution. The first post office in Middleburg Heights was established on October 6, 1827, and lasted until December 15, 1829. Middleburg Heights had one grain elevator until 1902. In 1907 it had three grocery stores and four restaurants combined; however these closed by 1916 because of the Depression. A feed mill operated here from 1908 to 1912; however this also failed due to lack of customers. In 1914 there were two small businesses associated with farming: a blacksmith shop and a hay wagon service. However these operations also failed within two years because of low demand for farm products during World War I and II. In 1922 there were only six residences in Middleburgh Heights--four rural homes and two frame houses--and one business that sold vegetables: The DairyQueen store which served as the town's primary source of income until 1955 when it closed down due to economic decline related to consolidation within local milk companies over that period. Overall, village life began to change after World War II when more people started moving into cities looking for work or opportunities beyond their villages' limited reach or ability to offer services such as agriculture or retail sales outside of school hours (the daycare industry became dominant afterWorld War II). Middleburg Heights is a town in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,691 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in what is now Middleburg Heights were Friends Meeting House owners and missionaries Jacob Beiler and his wife Anna Beiler who came to Ohio in 1814. They founded a meeting house on the present site of Old Middleburg High School in 1815. The Beilers left for Georgia in 1830 after having several children there. In 1833, John Doster settled here with his family. He had been born near Lebanon, Pennsylvania, and moved west when he became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1800. His brother Daniel Doster also lived here until his death in 1861 at the age of 78 years; he has one son still living today (Daniel V.) In 1867, David Kapp purchased land here from John Ackerly for $1,000 (). He built Kapp’s Store on the present site of Kapp Elementary School which became a landmark within town limits for many years due to its popularity as a general store and post office; it still stands today along Route 422 south of town Center Middleburg Heights was organized as an independent township on March 11, 1868 by order of President Andrew Johnson . On November 3rd that year , voters approved incorporation into Stark County . The first election held under new government took place on December 7th with Wm Hickey elected trustee ; by 1880 , all trustees had retired or died leaving only Clerk Wm Pritchard as supervisor On October 9th 1890 Great Lakes Railroad line arrived through town providing transportation to surrounding towns including Akron During World War II most residents evacuated due to strategic bombing raids over their homes but some continued to live here until they could return home during 1945-1946 period when war ended By 1970 most residents had either left or were removed by virtue of annexation by neighboring areas such as Canfield Township
