Miamisburg is a town in Summit County, Ohio, United States. The population was 3,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland metropolitan area. The name Miamisburg originated from the Miami and Erie Canal which ran through the town. Miamisburg was founded in 1824 by John A. Mackey as Waverly Heights on land acquired from the Miami and Erie Canal Company. In 1830, it changed its name to Miamisburg after a stop on the Erie Canal near Middletown, Connecticut. In 1834, construction began on the Main Street Bridge over the Maumee River in Miamisburg, which opened in 1835. In 1865, George Stephenson built a railroad station at Miamisburg; this became known as "the first railway station in America". In 1897-98, an electric streetcar line was constructed between Cleveland and Akron primarily using power generated by two locomotives belonging to The Ohio Electric Railway Company (OER). This streetcar line served as an important link between these cities during this time period and remain operational today as part of FirstEnergy's rapid transit system called "The T" across Cleveland Municipal Airport (Cleveland Hopkins International Airport) to Euclid Avenue Connector Line (AVE #1). On November 6th 1915 Mackey organized what would become known as The Masonic Lodge No 2 F&AM #2 for his brother-in-law Israel Kappesberger who had moved to Miamisburg from Lima three years earlier with his family following job opportunities available there when he arrived from Hungary via Canada postwar along with other executives of US Steel Corporation’s American West Africa plant where he had been employed since 1912 until that company’s relocation to Muskegon Heights Michigan four years later because steel production out of Midwest United States was ceasing due to World War I shortages caused by Treaty of Versailles restrictions placed upon Europe following their war victoryOverview By late 1916 more than one hundred families had settled around central Market Square creating what we know today as “Miamisburgh Township” although some of them may have left or been displaced when the new village formulated itself downtown several blocks east along Third Street west of current day State Route 309

The name of the town comes from the Miamis Creek which flows through it.Miamisburg was founded by Colonel John Mason and his family in 1807. The first post office was established in Miamisburg on March 1, 1809. In 1830, the village of Miamisburg merged with the town of Tiffin to form one small city.In 1971, Tiffin seceded from Stark County and became its own separate municipality called Tiffin Township.In 1978, Miamisburg annexed part of the borough of Delaware City which had been lost to that township after that community's incorporation into Cleveland as an independent municipality in 1976.
Miamisburg was founded in 1787 by John and Susanna Pennoyer. The town was named for their ancestor, the Miamisburg family of Pennsylvania. The Pennoyers had emigrated to Ohio in 1760 and traded goods with the Native Americans. In 1812 a group of settlers known as the "Miamisburg party" traveled from Cincinnati to what is now Miamisburg, in order to purchase land from the Shawnee Indians. The group's leader, Captain James Kapp, died on the trip and his companions were forced to return home without any success. The first permanent settler in Miamisburg was John Fenton who arrived in 1815. By 1830 MiamisBURG had a population of 350 people and it grew rapidly during the 19th century due to its strategic location at the junction of two major railroads. During World War II, local businesses made significant contributions towards military production including munitions manufacturing, shipbuilding and aircraft factories. After Germany's surrender, many German-owned businesses also went out of business because Allied forces took control of these industries following victory over Axis forces. The post-war years were tough for Miamisburg as various economic changes took place throughout Ohio; however, through hard work and resilience some Slowly began to rebuild their community fortunes back into late 20th century levels while keeping much of their cultural heritage alive along with several small businesses that continue operation today such as pizza places and lighted gardens
