Miamisburg is a town in Belmont County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,691 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Belmont County. Miamisburg is located on the Miami and Erie Canal. The first known permanent settler in what would become Miamisburg was James Ketchum in 1814. He platted the town around this time and named it after his home state of Michigan. In 1836, Daniel Cady founded another small community near present-day Miamisburg, naming it after himself - Cadyville. By 1840, there were twenty-two settlements in Belmont County with names such as Albion, Athens, Bedford Falls, Beavercreek Heights, Cincinnati Township (now Cleveland), Dragon Hill Village (now Delaware), East Cleveland Village (now Fairview Heights), Flint Hills Village (now Forest Park), Grand Rapids Township (now Grand Rapids) and Jaggery Plains Settlement (currently Graystown). In 1845–46 the land between Cincinnati Township to the north and Toledo to the south was surveyed for a proposed rail line connecting Cincinnati with Toledo. The railroad company abandoned its plans to build this line when new legislation made railways a federal monopoly under which only private companies could build railways. However local officials decided to name their townships after famous American presidents or other notable luminaries from Ohio who had died during that year - Andrew Johnson's Dayton Township became Hocking Valley; George Washington's Mount Vernon Parish became Arlington Heights; Ulysses S Grant's Perrysburg became Grangeville; James Ketchum's Miamisburg became Whitehall Junction. The first post office in Miamisburg was established on November 7, 1836 by Amos Aldrich as part of a program to establish mail service between Cincinnati and points east along the canal system serving Manifest Destiny expansionism themes of increasing Ulysses S Grant's power in America while preserving Indian Territory sovereignty issues raised by Kansas settlers goldmining operations on Cherokee Nation land east of Iowa City according to one source - this same post office served until 1888 when Indians were removed from all but two tracts within present day Belmont County via forced removal during Indian Removal Act of 1830 which also included portions of now Dayton Township including much of Hocking Valley – thereafter most mail went through Clinton Post Office just northeast of where today’s First Baptist Church & Park stands . As settlement grew around Miamisberg & adjacent communities developed schools including: Presbyterian School #1 built about 1850 by Reverend John Findlayman; Methodist Episcopal Zion Church built about 1860 by Rev Willis Gentry Jr.; Catholic Church established about 1865 by Rev Nicholas Rochefort; Ursuline Convent opened about 1870 by Rev Joseph McKenna Sr.; an unidentified school building erected 1870–75 burned down in 1902 ; Union School #2 completed early 1880s & remains standing today next door to current First Baptist Church . Miamisburg experienced rapid growth following passage of state law providing for township formularies which resulted in creation/adoption/annual publication/implementation/enforcement Of Municipal Code Of 1911 which provided processes & procedures For governing municipalities thru elected governments consisting Of Commissioners appointed By The Mayor And Aldermen With Jurisdiction Over Streets,...the process has continued uninterrupted ever since thru appointment members To Boards Created Pursuant To Law... Miamisburg, Ohio is a town in Harrison County, Ohio, United States. The population was 7,912 at the 2010 census. Miamisburg is part of the Cleveland–Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area. It lies along the Scioto River and borders Clearwater Township to the east and west. The first permanent settler in what is now Miamisburg was Nicholas Moore in 1787. He founded a log cabin on the site of present day Miamisburg High School which he named "Nanum". In 1814, George Stephenson built his canal here and named it after himself, Annandale Canal after his wife Annabella Stephenson. In 1825, John Cranch erected a small frame house on what is now First Avenue in downtown Miamisburg. This became the first courthouse in this area and served as such until 1859 when a new courthouse was built on State Street near today's Shaker Heights line of business districts. In 1830, John Pappenheimer leased one acre of land from Nicholas Moore for $1 per year to start an agricultural academy called "Pappenheimer Agricultural College" which would eventually become Wright State University (later Wayne State University). The college operated until 1903 when it merged with Hiram College to form Wayne State University-Hiram Campus. During World War II much of Miamisburg was destroyed by bombing as part of the effort to defeat Nazi Germany; however most structures were not lost but rather taken over by other businesses or used as storage facilities during wartime reconstruction efforts. Later that decade James Krieg began construction on what would become known as Akron's Second Water Plant; this plant would provide water for central Akron through Lake Erie without putting any riverfront property at risk. The utility opened its doors in 1951 and remains operational today providing water for more than 330 million people around the world! On November 3rd, 1886 voters adopted a resolution proclaiming October 24th Ohio Day; this date has been celebrated annually ever since as International Ohio Day! On October 24th 1893 local resident Julius Sperling donated 800 acres (30 km²) of land located northwest of town along Highway 27 to create Muskingum Township! The township currently occupies that area while Hocking Hills takes up most of eastern portions including much older sections located within Muskingum Township such as Half Moon Hill which likely formed from series Of lava flows dating back to about 12 MYA!!

It was established in 1815 and named after David Miamisburg, an early settler and member of the first territorial legislature. The town was platted in 1815 by James Kieft and others on land donated by David Miamisburg. The name originated with the fact that many of the original settlers were from New York City. By 1830, Miamisburg had a post office and two stores. In 1836, it became a part of the new Troy Township; but reverted to Morrow County in 1840. In 1870, A.J. Rice developed what is now known as Rice's Corners near the present day intersection of State Route 513 and Ulysses Road (now I-71). This led to increased activity in Miamisburg because it provided agricultural products for local people and goods for export to other parts of Ohio and Kentucky.
