By 1830, it had grown to twenty-six residents per square mile (11/km²), and by 1840 it had reached thirty-one residents per squaremile (16/km²). Miamisburg is a town in Butler County, Ohio, United States. The population was 9,847 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbus, Ohio Metropolitan Statistical Area. Miamisburg was founded in 1811 by men from what is now Delaware County and became a town in 1815 when it joined the county. The first permanent settler in Miamisburg was John Morse who arrived with his family in 1811. He built a cabin on the banks of the Scioto River and named it Morseville after his father-in-law Jonathan Dayton. Other early settlers included David Patten, Nicholas Wright and Benjamin Fenton. By 1830, there were over 100 residents living in Miamisburg. In 1835, the town voted to become an independent village under the leadership of Mayor James Werts. In that year, Miamisburg also became home to one of America's first water systems when Captain Amos Davenport installed a pump system to bring water from underground springs westward to be used for irrigation purposes in neighboring towns such as Lancaster and Hazleton. Under Mayor Werts' administration (1835-39), even more progress was made towards becoming an effective community: new schools were built; businesses were established; churches were constructed; and roads and bridges were built to connect Miamisburg with other parts of the county. In 1840, Town Council approved annexation by unincorporated territory making it official that Miamisberg had become a separate municipality within Butler County! A post office called Miamisburgh was established in 1811, but served only until 1862 because no mail could be sent through Fishkill Creek due to difficulties getting messages upriver during low water levels caused by heavy rains during winter months! During much of this time (1811-1862), people traveled downriver on canoes or bridges which they constructed themselves! The townsfolk banded together during these difficult times to organized relief efforts including raising money for widows and orphans during natural disasters such as devastating floods along the Scioto River following severe thunderstorms in late summer 1861 which left many homes destroyed or uninhabitable throughout most of central Ohio including parts of nearby Delaware County! After being annexed by Circleville Township on July 1st 1863 following riots between Circlevilleians & Indians near present day Portsmouth – an event still commemorated annually on October 15th each year – Miamisburg became known as "the little city" due its small size relative to other communities adjacent thereto like Circleville & Worthington Village located just east/northwest across I-670 from downtown Columbus! The increasing popularity of larger cities like Cleveland & Akron having their own postmasters resulted in less need for services provided by "the little city", eventually leading to its abandonment altogether some 70 years later despite continued efforts by members of local government throughout that period to keep it alive & thriving!!
