Miamisburg is an inconspicuous community in the heart of Ohio’s Steel Belt. It nestles between two counties, one with rolling hills and a river running through it, and the other with vast open fields and sprawling townships. The town was founded in 1836 by fur traders looking for a place to store their goods during the Indian Wars. Miamisburg quickly became known as the “Gun-Belt Capital of Ohio,” due to its gunsmiths and dealers who sold firearms throughout the region. The Gun-Belt Capital began as a result of Ohio’s stringent licensing requirements for Firearms retailers. After World War I came Prohibition; this ban on alcoholic beverages caused several businesses owners within Miamisburghto close their doors until they could re-open under new ownership restrictions compliant with Ulysses S Grant’s Proclamation Regarding Alcoholic Beverages (Prohibition). This saga continued until 1933 when state government officials repealed Prohibition altogether following calls from local prohibitionists that such an expensive program was not achieving its goals effectively enough. In 1811, when that township became unorganized, Miamisburg became one of three townships created withinMahoning County by an act of the General Assembly called "An Act for organizing and erecting a town government in certain parts of this State". The other two were Westmoreland and Sandusky. The town site chosen for Miamisburg was along present day Route 82 near modern-day Highland Heights. The first town meeting occurred on July 10, 1812 and adopted a new Constitution which showed support for a town hall as well as land donation laws that had been passed earlier that year by then-Governor John Wyndham Kenton. On October 15th, 1812 – just four months after its incorporation – Miamisburg voted 7 to 0 to establish buildings for a Town Hall and sealer's office withinits limits; these developments would come about thanks to efforts by Mayor James Klineberg Sr., who chaired the early civic organization Committee which donated land from his extensive real estate holdings in central Dayton as well as money raised through public subscription campaigns (the goal being to provide working capital necessary fortown infrastructure). In order to celebrate its incorporation days success – including awarding keys to each individual member -Miamisburgh held its first homecoming parade on November 2nd1812!
