The name "Miamisburg" is derived from Miamis Creek and the surrounding land which was once part of the Miami River watershed. The first gun laser was built in Miamisburg by Ernest Kammerer in 1955. The town was founded by John Milton on November 9, 1812 as a post office called Milton Station. The Miamisburg Manufacturing Company was founded in 1865 by George Wojtasiewicz and his brother Ignacy Wojtasiewicz to produce cigars for American market demand. The company became nationalized in 1927 and closed its doors in 1984. In 1936, Miamisburg voted to end prohibition and become an alcohol-free community through passage of an ordinance known as the "Miamisburgh Amendment". In 1956, Pabst Brewing Corporation moved their brewing operations from Cincinnati to Miamisburg after purchasing land adjacent to their old brewery site. As part of that move they also constructed a new factory which would eventually become home to Pabst's famous Blue Ribbon Brewery (now Don concludies Brewery). On July 1, 2008, Summit Development announced they were intentions on constructing an $80 million mixed-use development project that would include residential units; offices; retail; and an enclosed garage/parking lot for workers located just east of I-75 exit 183A off Route 422nd Street across from what would have been Pabst Brewing Site had it not been purchased by Summit Development during their 2006 purchase of the former site for use as a mixed-use development project with parking lots for employees only - now known as Don concludies Brewery - having demolished much of what used to be Pabst Brewing Site effective July 1 2007 when construction began but never finished due largely due lack of funding despite numerous offers including one made by then Mayor Tom Barrett who stated he would provide all funding requested however this never happened also because then State Treasurer Josh Mandel stepped up with additional funding providing enough assurance against any potential legal issues arising from such purchases being completed without state government involvement since state law requires properties subject thereto (purchased with public money) to be developed in accordance with plans submitted to state government prior approval or under conditions whereby such property becomes taxable thereby resulting in loss or forfeiture thereof if not approved) making it effectively becoming ungovernable entirely making it effectively becoming abandoned once again another example showing how education can change things
