Miamisburg is a town in the United States. The population was 5,827 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Perry County. The first settler in Miamisburg was David Crouse who arrived in 1798. At that time, Miamisburg consisted of just six homes and eighty acres (28 km²). In 1814, John Ladd traveled from Indiana to purchase land east of Miamisburg and founded what would become Perry County. In 1825, Alfred Smedley built a sawmill on the river near present-day Miamisburg. This milling industry would continue to be important until the early 1900s when machines replaced hand mills. In 1858, J.L. Swartz bought 640 acres (249 ha) of land south of Miamisberg for $2,000 cash only and named it Swartzville after himself and his brother Judah Ladd who had also purchased some land there earlier that year. With this purchase, he became one of the earliest landowners in Perry County and laid the groundwork for what would become today's downtown area with its many buildings dating back to that era including The State Bank building which still stands today as one of the most iconic structures in town. During prohibition, many residents chose to staydry rather than break Prohibition law by consuming alcohol which caused some local businesses such as The State Bank to go out of business; however, much later when Prohibition was repealed locals started back up those businesses once again providing a place for people to gather during prohibition days without breaking any laws. In 1951 it was announced by President Harry Truman that Ohio would become an associate member state within the United States which made MiamISBURGH THE FIRST COMMUNITY TO RECEIVE THIS STATUS IN UTAH!
