Miamisburg is a town in the U.S. state of Ohio, located on the Scioto River near the borders of West Virginia and Pennsylvania. The population was 3,898 at the 2010 census. Miamisburg is part of the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settlement in what is now Miamisburg was made by George Bailey in 1788 when he built a trading post on the river. In 1814, James Kapp founded a gristmill here and it became one of Kapp's largest businesses. The mill closed in 1886 but reopened as an ice cream parlor in 1951 after being closed for many years due to Prohibition. Miamisburg had its own school system until 1906 when it merged with Dayton's public schools to form the Dayton-Miamisburg district. Between 1907 and 1912, Miamisburg erected a new school building which still stands today (now used as office space). The old mill building served as both Miamisburgh High School and Municipal Court from 1912 until 1924 when it burned down; however, it was rebuilt soon afterwards and continued to serve as an office building until 1959 when it was moved to its current location next to Interstate 71 where it remains today. In that year, also, Miamisburgh added its first grocery store to its shopping list with J & H Fritsche opening up shop on Main Street later that same year along with several other local businesses including Oswald Piano Company (later renamed Pianos R Us) which opened up on Beaver Road in 1957 and has been running ever since!
