This led to the incorporation of several villages in southeastern Butler County into Miamisberg – Athens Landing included – until there were only five remaining village incorporations before 1870:[2] these were: Athens Township (founded 1865), Brookville Township (founded 1865), Cleveland Village (founded 1870), Delaware Township (born 1862), Gahanna Village (born 1861). Miamisburg is a town in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 7,362 at the 2010 census. It lies on the Scioto River. The first settler in what is now Miamisburg was John Wilkinson in 1814. He and his family moved from Pottsville, Pennsylvania to Miamisburg after the American Revolution. Wilkinson built a gristmill on the Scioto River and became one of the early farmers in Miamisburg. In 1826 he married Julia Ann Johnston and they started a general store in Miamisburg which lasted until 1865. They also ran a blacksmith shop until it closed around 1907. Also in 1826 Wilkinson built a log cabin on the banks of the Scioto River near today's intersection of US-22 and US-27A. This cabin served as home to Colleen O'Neill for many years before she moved out and bought an auto garage next door (now part of PNC Bank). In 1917 Colonel John Fenton organized an agricultural fair at which local merchants participated; that fair is still celebrated annually by locals today. In 1830 territorial government was established within Ohio and Miamisburg became part of Warren Township; however, because it lay within Stark County, it remained under federal jurisdiction during much of its history despite being incorporated into Stark County in 1907. The first post office opened in Miamisburg on October 25, 1837, with Wm Hickey as mail clerk.; however, this post office closed circa 1860 due to high demand from settlers for mail service beyond their residences; instead travellers received packages held by agents located at Lackawanna Canal warehouses when goods could not be transported directly from Philadelphia or New York City due to weather conditions or other problems caused by war or transportation limitations then extant.). On May 15th 1870 Jno Aiken discontinued operating his hotel along High Street because he had no customers remaining following several floods that year that destroyed many homes along that street including some dating back to 1800s! During World War I -1918 regionwide censorship halted all travel outside area military installations so residents were limited only to access through private channels such as train rides (due to high insurance rates) or carpooling with fellow soldiers living inside military barracks/enclosures away from civilian areas.. However citizens who wished travel outside limits did so using alternative methods such as travelling by boat downriver past Cuyahoga Falls then hiking upriver past Mentor on Eidolon Lake where they would purchase tickets ahead of time at convenience stores operated by men known as "Hiker's Paradise" prior to departure.. After 1919 restrictions eased somewhat but travelers were still limited largely due primarily to lack of available transport options for large numbers across entire state during those years especially given east coast ports were open 24/7 then wartime limitations ceased.. In 1951 rural electrification began throughout most of Ohio prompting businesses starting up since earlier days like Hiker's Paradise closed unable or unwilling(?)to keep up with technology .. Many businesses failed during this time period including Kudlow & Sons Hardware which has been continuously active since 1954 when brothers Leo and Ralph Kudlow purchased land adjacent to current day business park off SR 402); David Chandler Store whichclosed 1976 after more than 50 years providing basic grocery items like eggs, milk products etc.,;" Big Daddy's Pizza"whichclosed 1988 after more than 40 years serving pizza since 1955 inside 2 old brick buildings on westside edgeof present day commercial district adjoining Present Day School District boundaries; among others dozens upon dozens... .Today there are few if any remnant traces left behind from those pioneer days particularly given modern technology making such operations very difficult."
Miamisburg is a city in west-central Ohio, United States. The population was 10,571 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Mahoning County and part of the Toledo–area metropolitan area. Miamisburg was founded in 1800 by John Copley and his brother James in what is now northwestern Mahoning County. The first store opened in 1801. In 1814, Miamisburg became a town when it annexed parts of neighboring Huberstadt Township. The site for Miamisburg's first courthouse were two small hills on the south side of the then-town square, which is now known as State Street. A courthouse was built there in 1827 and served until 1837 when it burned down due to an accidental fire that also destroyed much of downtown Miamisburg. In 1840, Judge George Hays donated land east of State Street for a new courthouse which would be enlarged and renamed "Hays Court" after him.
