The Mentor Rifle Club has been meeting since 1892. From that time, the club has enjoyed active membership and participation in many shooting competitions around the area. In 1974, the club hosted its first pistol competition with a field goal pistol event. The following year, the club added an air rifle competition to its schedule. In 1978, the club became a member of the Ohio Association of Shooting Clubs (OAAC). That same year, the club organized its first skeet competition. In 1984, “Mentor Rifle Clubpresident” Bob Sauer established a handgun program at Mentor High School. This program continues to this day and is one of the most popular programs offered by our organization. Over time, other programs have been added such as trap shooting and skeet/traphooting; however it remains primarily a rifle program at this point in time. Since inception, we have seen many changes occur within our community when it comes to gun ownership and firearms safety regulations: -In 1996, Ohio changed its concealed carry law from a permit requirement to a registration system which all citizens were required to complete by September 1st of each year in order to possess any type of handgun or rifles without a license or exemption. This change was significant because it made firearm possession much more difficult for those who did not already own firearms through another means (such as owning them through inheritence or inheritance from someone who did). It also increased gun sales among those who already had access to firearms on October 15th every year due to this compliance deadline . -In 1998, Mentor RCB organized their very first annual NRA members banquet which drew top caliber shooters from across Ohio including multiple state championships in various events including Trap & Skeet, Pistol Competition Finals and several Air Gun Events totaling over $10K $$ -In 2000 – now nearly 20 years later – we again hosted our NRA members banquet which again drew top caliber shooters from across Ohio including multiple state championships in various events including Trap & Skeet tournaments together with several air gun events totaling over $10K $$ -With each passing year there seems onlyto be one big trend when it comes to firearm safety regulation: statewide mandates! Every other state except Kentucky followed suit with their own similar mandates by 2011 .....Ohio finally got around to repealing their version of this mandate back in January 2014 !!

Mentor, Ohio is a city in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 382 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Stark County. Mentor was founded by John Mentor and his family in 1810 as a small trading post on the Scioto River. In 1817, tract 3, including present-day Mentor, was acquired from the Indian Path Company for $5 per acre (1/4 of an acre = £0.50). By 1830, Mentor had become a thriving town with three churches and seventy-six homes. In 1835, visionaries Anthony Doane and Ebenezer Scudder purchased 10 acres (40 ha) of land east of downtown Mentor to establish Doane Institute; they named it after themselves. In 1840–41, they built Ladyessler's Chapel on what is now Elm Street in Mentor to serve as their home while they studied theology at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana. When they left Indiana for good in 1845, the chapel reverted to its earlier name: Doane Chapel until it became part of Stuyvesant High School when it opened in 1949. In 1850s Arenstown Township was organized adjoining Stark County; it extended north into Otter Creek Township to include present-day Muskegon Heights and other areas north of Lake Erie before turning westward again along Findlay Road into modern day Toledo Township boundary northeast of Toledo Airportirted by high ground overlooking much of modern-day Toledo including much eastern portions of Cleveland State University where Ithaca College now stands (the college's original campus lay within Arenstown Township). On November 1st 1860 via an act passed by the Ohio General Assembly "an act for purchase and donation doth hereby authorize Reverend John Elisha Whiteanus pastorius deaconess Chassidy Lyon lotteries patent number 5293" – Whiteanus being then executive director or trustee – "to purchase two lots containing one hundred fifty acres (160 ha)" lyingwest side Lots 2 & 3 reeds marked Lot 24 on map prepared by George Washington Lewis Surveyors dated February 17th 1861 surveyedand soldTo Reverend John Elisha Whiteanuis PastoriusDeaconess Chassidy Lyon." This parcel forms eastern border today's Elyria neighborhood just south west corner connecting Eastford Avenue with North Main Street Whiteanuis donated this property and added another 100 acres east to continue donations which eventually totaled 1 million dollars! The following year he donated additional land parcels totaling 640 acres total making him one man who contributed over 160 square miles or about 4% of allland area developed westof Cincinnati OH between 1800&1920! By 1907, the population had increased to 128 and by 1919 it had reached its peak with 171 residents. In 1922, Mentor was annexed by Cleveland and the population decreased to 127. However, since then the population has slowly declined and today there are just 38 residents living in Mentor. The history of Mentor dates back to 1814 when John Dent opened a store in what is now Mentor Village square. The first post office at this location was established on October 10th, 1816. At that time there were no mills in the area and most inhabitants made their livelihoods from agriculture or trade. In 1956, Edwin Joffe donated land to make way for an apartment complex which would be called “The Ridge” after his own home on Ridge Road outside of Cleveland Heights. It wasn’t until 1978 that the name “Mentor” was given to the entire square block surrounding The Ridge development while still retaining its original identity as an agricultural village center with several stores and homes dating back to 1814-1816
