Mentor, Ohio is a city of over 100,000 people located in the east-central part of the United States. It was founded in 1795 by Captain James K. Polk and U.S. Senator John J. Pershing as a military post on the Scioto River. The city became a center for rifle manufacturing in its early years and attracted talented shooters from all over America to its gunsmiths and rifle manufacturers. In 1876, Mentor became the home of what is now Ruger Manufacturing Company, one of the world's leading firearms manufacturers. Today, Ruger Manufacturing Company manufactures rifles, shotguns and pistols under many different brand names including Ruger®, Remington® & Stevens ® American Firearms® (AFA). Mentor has been an important Rifle Manufacturers' hometown for more than 200 years and has been a major center for rifle shooting throughout much of that time. The history of rifle stocks can be traced back to when Captain James K. Polk built his first stock company here in 1795 to produce barrels for his new artillery pieces being made at nearby Greenville Arsenal (now Columbus). At that time rifles were still very much an experimental technology and there was little regulation governing their manufacture or sale outside of small villages like Greenville where gunsmiths had access to quality barrels from local smiths Indies only too eager to start making their own weapons with improved technology! After building some impressive cannons here at Mentor County arsenal Plank developed the idea(?)of having a factory specifically designed/built/manufactured rifles which would become known as "Polk's Rifles." This design led to development by two brothers named John J . Polk who together with Elisha Eliot built several factories around Cincinnati, Ohio Manufactured this type of Rifle beginning with Model 1827 called "Eliot's Patent Rifle" These rifles were exported all over Europe where they enjoyed great success against Napoleonic forces!!!! In 1875 Captain James K Polk announced plans for construction of a new armory next door in Mentor which would soon become home to both Ruger Manufacturing Company and then Smith & Wesson revolver company - both companies soon acquired by Colt Firearms Corporation after Captain Polk's death in 1881.....Colt Firearms Corporation soon became one of Americas premiere firearms producers thanks largely to their innovative designs such as their revolversModel 1886.........and later models such as their famous Model 1907..................which revolutionized handgun production............... even launching America into World War 1!

In 1853, Mentor was founded by John Mentor and his brother-in-law, Amos J. Butler. The two men started a millinery business in what is now the downtown area of Mentor. In 1855, they built a gristmill on the river near present day State Route 13. The milling business continued until 1865 when it merged with another business to form the Mentor Manufacturing Company. The company produced rifles and shotguns from 1871 until 1907 when it went out of business. Mentor's rifle stock history begins with an immigrant, John Bendix, who arrived in Ohio in 1851. He began manufacturing rifles in Mentor and other nearby towns before moving to Cincinnati in 1860 and starting a gun manufacturer there that became one of America’s largest producers of firearms until its bankruptcy in 1904. Heimported many guns from Europe during this time and most notably supplied arms for the cotton plantations owned by Andrew Johnson during his term as President from 1861-1865

Mentor was founded by Nicholas Mentor in 1802 as a small hamlet on the Scioto River about northeast of Dayton. In 1824, Mentor became an incorporated village after being approved by the General Assembly of Ohio as a place where people could worship God according to their own beliefs without fear of retribution from neighboring villages or towns. A University Campus has been proposed for Mentor and it would be one of only a few universities in central Ohio not based in Cincinnati-Dayton metropolitan area The city's rich history starts with its first settler, Nicholas Mentor, who arrived in 1802 from Connecticut with his family and built a log cabin on the Scioto River near what is now Mentor Square just east of town center. mentors early years were challenging but rewarding; he helped to create one of America’s earliest commercial communities, becoming its first postmaster and later president (1824-1827)of its first bank –the National Bank and Trust Company located on Main Street between High Street and Elm Avenue Today’s downtown “mentorship district” began developing around that time when two blocks north along Elm Avenue on Third Street - then known as Third Street Methodist Episcopal Church – Mr. John Witherspoon erected himself a brick building as an academy for young men (later known as Wright College). This was followed by Drury Hall School (now Wright State University), which opened in 1830 adjacent to First Baptist Church across High Street from today’s Park Place Shopping Center; this street name still exists today within sight of downtown business districts while other blocks west have been renamed University Drive or Academy Boulevard During those early years there were few schools nearby so students had to travel some distance to attend local schools like Shadyside Collegiate Institute located about five miles southwest near modern day Fairfield before returning home for night classes during summer months One community resource that helped support these educational efforts was churches such as First Baptist Church (founded 1795), Second Baptist Church (founded 1798), Messiah United Brethren Chapel located on High Street between Fifth Avenue and Seventh Avenue NW today also serves as headquarters for Open Road Christian Ministries which operates several ministries including juvenile detention facilities housing kids age 10-17 year olds operated out of The Golisano Children's Homebuilding & Care Center located off Monroe Road just south of Butlertown mentors founding days are celebrated each year with an annual festival featuring live music, food vendors, arts & crafts displays, Pioneer Days parade starting at 5 p.m., fireworks over downtown skyline at 9 p.m., evening open air concert features popular country/western artists at The Opera House starting at 8:30 p.m., Morehead Township Historical Society Museum opens Saturday morning preceding Independence Day Celebration event inside old morehead jail opposite courthouse lawn

Mentor, Ohio was an agricultural community located in the eastern portion of the United States. It developed as a result of Dutch and English settlers who arrived in the early eighteenth century. The community began to grow when it became known as "The Village of Mentor" because its residents were known for their assistance to one another. In 1807, the village was renamed after Amos Davenport, an American statesman and founder of Wabash County, Indiana. In 1814, Mentor became a town after voters approved a charter from the Ohio General Assembly. The town had two stores and six homes. The first teacher in Mentor was Rev. John Prentice who taught school from 1792-1800. In 1820, Dr. Samuel Morse opened his medical office in the town which soon became a center for medical care in central Ohio. In 1830, Mentor voted to become a city with a population of 507 people and on November 3, 1830 it passed an ordinance establishing itself as a municipal corporation under the name "Mentor." On July 1st of that year, mentorship received its own newspaper called "The Gazetteer" which served as both local news source and guide to what was happening in other villages around town. In 1846-1847, many farmers faced foreclosure on their property due to changes brought about by war efforts and economic depression throughout America which caused prices for food to drop precipitously across most areas including Ohio Valley communities like Mentor; this made farming more difficult than ever before for those living there especially since much land had been bought up by larger landowners during times of prosperity preceding World War I's purchasing spree (although crops did continue to be grown). Despite these challenges individual farmers kept their farms while others sold off portions or lost all their land due largely to market forces at that time; however some properties managed to stay in operation even through tough times thanks primarily toMENTOR FARMERS ASSOCIATION whose members donated land en masse during this time period). grocer JOSEPH HUBBARD started operating WHEAT MARTIN'S grocery store on Main Street just north of where today's Route 25 intersects with Elmira Road outside present day neighboring unincorporated Cuyahoga County; he also operated ADDISON'S GARAGE - now part of CHILDREN'S CENTER OF OHIO - next door until 1924 when he closed it down due largely Because competition from bigger businesses led him too close unto other customers inside ANDERSON BUSINESSES AGENCY building at 4 N Main Street where today's corner store is located Despite being burdened by high costs associated with maintaining such large populations within such small communities post WWII many residents chose not only To Keep Their Community Alive but To Also Offer assistence To One Another thru organized groups & Associations such as MENTOR FARMERS ASSOCIATION
