After playing their final game at Ross Stadium on November 2nd, 1989 against fellow city neighbor Cleveland Browns; Toledo Rockets head coach Paul Brown called "the last game ever played at Ross Stadium" before retiring after coaching there for 36 years In recent years Mentor has seen revitalization with several new businesses popping up including online retailer Overstock and real estate company Bedrock Realty Partners which announced plans to build an $8 million mixed use development adjacent to library/museums/recreational facilities adjacent to Interstate 71 south of downtown that would include residences as well as retail space The redevelopment project is currently stalled due to lack of funding but it could begin construction any time now if things get rolling again

During World War II, Mentor played an important role in providing munitions for Allied forces fighting in Europe. In 1945, Mayor Clifford Denny appointed Arthur Ashe Jr., then only 15 years old, as Mayoralty candidate for mentoring young people across Greater Cleveland. Ashe won handily thanks to his tireless work ethic and his commitment to promoting early childhood education within his city limits. After serving two terms as mayor, Ashe announced his retirement from public life in 1987 but continued to support local elected officials through his own foundation until he died at age 94 on November 10th that year.
