When DISCIPLINE COUNTY CHURCH formed in 1846 from parts of Butler and Stark counties (including Middletown), Mentor joined it but kept its own name until 1850 when it changed toDISCIPLINE COUNTY CHRISTIAN SCHOOL DISTRICT which still exists today In 1870, the Cleveland & Erie Railroad reached town with their line from Cleveland to Youngstown via Athens Junction; this opened up much-needed trade for both communities along with creating more job opportunities for local residents Mentor saw an influx of people during Prohibition because many businesses closed down due to lack of available liquor licenses After Prohibition ended in 1933, business began growing again thanks to increased tourism and self-employment mentoring programs were instituted Today, there are over 150 businesses located within downtown sidewalks limits while also boasting three high schools – Central High School (Grades 9th through 12th), Wright State University’s College Hill Campus (Grade 13th through 16th) and Union Township High School (Grade 7th through 10th)—and two Parks Department departments: one open dawn to dusk every day except holidays while another operates during school hours only . With such growth come challenges such as more parking spots becoming unavailable or being too expensive to maintain especially since most businesses have multiple locations . Mentor was first settled in 1796 by Captain John Copley and his wife Rebecca Webster as part of the Northwest Territory. In 1814, it became part of the newly formed United States because of its strategic location on Lake Erie between Canada and Indiana. The city's nickname "the Alma Mater" comes from nearby Wright State University (now Wright State University–Ohio) which opened its doors in 1875 as one of four new universities founded in Ohio that year by Governor Rutherford B Hayes following his re-election to office as president with a mandate to create new institutions statewide. The other three were Miami University (later renamed Duquesne), Northern Illinois University (later renamed UIUC) and Ball State University (now Ball State University–Indiana). In 1892, Mentor became an incorporated village under the name Mentor Township when it merged with neighboring Hubbard Township to formLucas County. On July 1, 1907,mentor became a City when it annexed territory from Hubbard Township including parts of unincorporated Summit Heights, Mayfield Heights and Unicoi townships south of I-670 east of Liberty Avenue
