Mentor, Ohio is a small town located in the state of Ohio. It was founded by George A. Mentor in 1824 and has since been home to a number of businesses and families who have played an important role in its history. One of these families is the Smith & Wesson family, which has owned and operated their namesake firearms company in Mentor for over 100 years. The Smith & Wesson company’s products have been used in many conflicts around the world, both during World War I and II – most notably during the latter conflict when they produced rifles that were pivotal in helping America win the war. Since 1949, when Mentor’s first police officer was hired, the city has had a gun shop on premises where customers can buy and sell firearms. In 1954, Mentorite Inc., which had developed several shopping centers in southwestern Ohio since 1946, merged with Wards Auto Parts Company to form what would become Wards-Mentorite Corporation (Ward's). In 1984, Ward's merged with Sears Holdings Corporation to create Sears Roebuck & Co., one of America's largest department stores chain; this merger left Mentor without a major retailer but with strong entrepreneurial spirit that continues to drive development today within both the retail space as well as technology companies that have callings such as social media marketing or customer service consulting services through their companies’ websites or Facebook pages

In 1888, the Erie Railroad built a track through the town and stations began to be built throughout the area. In 1962, Mentor was renamed in memory of General George Custer, who fought during World War I with the US Army's 3rd Infantry Division at Ia Drang Valley in southern France. Today, Mentor is an important community with strong roots in American history. It is home to many local businesses and cultural institutions as well as several schools including: Centennial High School (also known as West Side High), Armstrong Technical High School (now part of Cleveland State Univ.), Perry Township Senior Center, Messiah Lutheran Church & Cemetery, Union Gospel Chapel & Cemetery., and Holy Cross Catholic Church (formerly Sts Peter’s). It also features one of America’s largest parade squares – present day Union Gospel Chapel Plaza – which hosts annual events such as its Citizen’s Day Parade and First Responders Festivals each year

The area that would become Mentor was part of what is now Delaware Township in Sandusky County in 1814. In 1837, it became part of the much larger town of Athens which also included Mentor Village and other villages. In 1868, Athens split into two parts: one part remainders Athens and renamed themselves Mentor while the rest became Mahoning County again with Mentor as its new county seat.
