The first European immigrants to what is now Mentor came from Hungary in 1814. They founded a trading post on the Scioto River called Kossuthon (named for Prince Franz Joseph I of Austria). In 1893, Dayton annexed Mentor; however, due to financial difficulties caused by prohibition laws enacted during President Grover Cleveland's administration, investment funds were not available to pay for annexation so Dayton returned home without annexingment privileges. In 1922, when Akron incorporated as a separate city within Dayton proper), Mentor reverted back to being an unincorporated community again with just over 10 residents (the population peaked at 15 in 1940). In 1946 local Electric Light & Power Company president John Droege named his new subdivision "Mentor" after his hometown of Toledo which he had visited whilepresidente de la electricidad en España y Venezuela de la Confederación Americana (CABE) - later known as CEBA - serving as Vice President between 1955-1957 during Mexican presidential term Calles' term(s).
