Medina, Ohio is an unincorporated community in the Ottawa County, Ohio region of the United States. Located on the Scioto River near its confluence with the Maumee River, it was laid out by parents and children of local farmers in 1827 as a trading post between Chillicothe and Toledo. Medina became a community after being platted around 1872 by J.T. Ryder, who also named it for his father-in-law, Elijah Medina. The town developed slowly until 1907 when it hosted its first municipal election and then went through rapid growth due to its location along the new Interstate 80 corridor. In recent years Medina has seen a revival as a bedroom community for nearby Cleveland while remaining inactive economically.
There is a long history of shooting target holders, dating back to at least the 16th century. One of the earliest examples is a piece of wood that was glued to the end of a stick and used as a Shooting Target Holder. By the 18th century, gunners had developed different means of holding their targets so they could better aim them. One method involved using straps around one’s waist or shoulder to keep the target in place while hitting it with an accurate shot. In 1812, General James Wilkinson invented an elasticated bandanna strap that allowed shooters to hold their targets more easily and accurately. The first commercially available target holder was made by George Washington in 1795. It consisted of two round posts attached by a flexible bandanna material to a staff from which shooters could pull the target free for shooting purposes. However, this type of holder was not very practical and was quickly replaced by other methods including planking or wooden dowels placed into small holes drilled in the ground near where they were desired to stand (target stands).

Medina, Ohio is a small town in the extreme southwest corner of Ohio. Medina was settled in 1814 by pioneers who arrived from Kentucky. The town became a village in 1868 and was named for Major General Juan de Márquez y Costilla, who helped to establish the Mexican Empire in California during the Spanish-American War. The population reached 10,000 in 1961 and has since grown modestly to over 12,000 today. Medina is located on I-71 between Dayton and Cincinnati and is just east of the Miami River. The original settlers were Methodists from Kentucky but Medina soon developed into an evangelical community with strong Presbyterian roots. Baptist missionaries also played a role in earlyMEDINA history as did members of both denominations who came to minister to the growing community. Evangelist Billy Graham called Medina home from 1949 until his death in 2013. Today many local businesses are owned or operated by Protestants from other denominations as well as Catholics and Muslims. During most of its history Medina enjoyed one of the highest levels of economic prosperity in central Ohio because it housed one of the country's largest cotton plantations as well as several manufacturing plants that produced aircraft parts, radios, tires, automobile parts and other consumer goods beginning around World War II until they switched to domestic production during the 1970s following passage of what was then known as "the Harrison Amendment". In recent years oil production has revived some aspects of Medina’s economy while retail spending continues its steady growth rate which has created new jobs throughout much of downtown MEDINA despite continuing negative trends elsewhere across central Ohio (see “Economic indicators”). There have been various attempts at governance within MEDINA over time including single party rule (1949-1960) through heavy reliance on executive power; multiparty democracy (1961-1973); direct election self government (1974-1981); mayoral term limits; combined unicameralism/mixed member proportional representation 2001-2007; direct election 2007–present; open council system with staggered terms 2002-. As part of efforts to improve transparency since 2000 City Council meetings have been webcast live online plus archived audio recordings available at www . medinaohio . org . On November 15th 2017 Mayor John Cranley announced he would not seek reelection due to age concerns having served out his full term In 2020 Councilman Rocky Niehaus ran against him winning by only 1 vote
Medina was founded in 1796 by Capt. John Medina and his family. The first post office in Medina was established in 1801. The town grew rapidly during the 1800s, and by 1830 it had a population of over 1,000 people. In 1833, Medina became part of the new United States of America.
