On March 14, 1912, portions of Canfield Township were annexed to form Ashtabula County while the rest became Medina County again on May 1 that year. Today Medina is located in southern Summit county near Akron on I- highways 11/12/13 east-west as well as I-675 northwest-southeast which forms its border with Delaware county about 15 miles west-southwest of town limits A post office called "Medina" was established in 1827, but it did not remain in operation until 1870. The current name "Medina" was given to it by vote of the people after they had surveyed their land for a new courthouse site which would have been built adjacent to what is now Middlebrook Elementary School. The original courthouse site never materialized due to lack of funds but rather a new one was built northeast of town on what is now Old Market Road just south of US 21 between Seneca Lake Drive & Meridian Parkway The village began issuing tax certificates starting in 1898; however progress stopped due to World War I shortages within village limits According to the 2010 census there are 2,817 people living in Medina including 1% African American residents
