Medina, Ohio was founded in 1796 by a group of pioneers who came from Pennsylvania. The town was named for James Caldwell, the first postmaster in Medina County. In 1835, it became part of the United States and census counted 1,521 people in Medina Township. On July 3, 1850, it incorporated as a village and on November 6, 1857 had its first election as a township. On January 15, 1860 it became an unincorporated community when the Toledo & Western Railroad came through the area and abandoned it.

The population was 2,611 at the 2010 census. Medina was founded in 1824 as a trading post on the Sandusky River by John C. Frick and his brother-in-law Samuel Teague. The post served as a stopping point for wagon trains journeying to and from Cincinnati through what is now West Virginia and Kentucky. In 1827, Medina became an incorporated settlement under the name "Newtown". In 1836, it became part of Dayton when that city was formed from parts of pre-existing townships. New Town quickly grew into a major center of commerce and culture due to its location on trade routes connecting Cincinnati with Pittsburgh and other cities in Pennsylvania and Maryland. By 1840, New Town had become one of Dayton's most important commercial districts. When Greene County was created in 1846 (following Ohio's admission to the Union), New Town became part of Greene County but continued to grow as an important commercial center until it lost its importance during the 1850sas Dayton grew larger and more industrialized. However, Medina still remains an important cultural center due to its rich history which includes several renowned museums including The Woodlands Museum of Art and The Cleveland Museum Of Natural History The town has experienced many different waves of growth over time; starting out small with just a few residents in 1830/, gradually expanding until its current size by 1870/. During this time period there were also dramatic changes in area demographics with more people moving into town from surrounding rural areas; eventually resulting in Today’s Mayor being deeply connected to both OldTown Neighborhoods while also serving portions of two adjacent neighborhoods: Northgate/Brunswick Heights/Eastpointe along I-675E / Southgate along I-675W On July 4th 1889 settlers arriving from Canada erected a large American flagpole outside their new courthouse where they continue to fly it today as part of community traditions

The town was originally called Xenia but changed to Medina after John's father, Captain George Medina, died in 1802. There are two primary schools in Medina: The Harrison School District provides education for students K-12th grades; while Monroe County High School offers 9th-12th grade students a comprehensive program including many sports and academies as well as professional instruction in English/Algebra I/ II/ III along with Fine Arts classes such as music and painting which serves as an alternate curriculum for high school seniors who do not want or are unable to attend one of these local public schools due to budgetary restraints or enrollment limitations at their respective high schools or because they have been accepted into one or more selective adult higher education institutions nearby like Case Western Reserve University or Cleveland State University etc... There are also 1day kindergarten through 8th grade programs offered by both districts starting on Pre-Kindergarten Education through 4th Grade (2010) The Harrison School District currently operates 9th - 12th Grades classrooms located on 2 campuses: One campus is located off US 20 near Akron Hwy 495 & West Main Street where there is also a gymnasium and cafeteria; while another campus is located off US 20 near SR 574 & SR 624 just east of Interstate 75 which consists onlyof 6 classrooms used for instructional purposes currently (2011)
