The racial makeup of the village was 97% White; 0% African American; 0% Native American; 2% Asian; 0% Pacific Islander; 1% from other races; and 1% from two or more races. Polk led an American military expedition into central Ohio during the War of 1812 and named one of his unit's Companies A "Medina Company" after Medina. The company later became known as 4th Infantry Regiment (Ohio Volunteers). In 1865, when the Union Army invaded Kentucky and Tennessee, Medina residents took up arms against their federal intruder. One resident, Hiram Medway, killed three Union soldiers before he was captured and imprisoned at Fort Delaware on the Scioto River near Cincinnati. He died in prison in 1867 aged 43 years old. Consequently, Columbus also received credit for liberating him from prison and bringing him back to Columbus as a national hero A post office called Medina was established in 1827; it changed its name to Athens in 1896. It was renamed Lima in 1907 due to incorporation by Lima Township into Athens Township; it reverted to its original name two years later when Athens Township merged with Medina Township. The current name of Medina comes from the Spanish word "medina," meaning enclosed or protected area or forested region. On July 8, 1912 – just one day shy of their centennial – Athens-based Ohiopyle Railroad Co., Incorporated along with Peebles Manufacturing Co., acquired land east of modern-day Minerva Road between Minerva Road and Cedar Avenue for a new depot/railroad line that would eventually be known as the Dayton–Dayton Railway Company (D&D RR). This move marked not only a definitive change in business direction for Ohiopyle but also helped solidify downtown's role as commercial center for central Ohio while accommodating growing residential development nearby which would include areas now known as South Euclid Heights and North Euclid Heights neighborhoods northwest of downtown . mainline service began on October 17th 1913 with four days notice via horse drawn carriages across Dayton city limits operating out of what is today OHI Plaza located inside present-day Riverside Parkade off State Street within walking distance of D&DRR Depot !!
