Medina is a small town in Medina County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,713 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cincinnati metropolitan area. Medina's ZIP code is 45017. The first settler in Medina was John Wilkinson in 1814. He and his family were among the initial arrivals to Medina Township after Ohio became a state in 1803. By 1830, most of what is now Medina had been platted out and named for Captain Lewis Gamble of the brig "Overture" (1798-1801). In 1831, Gamble donated land to become what is now Medina Township. He also served as its first Treasurer from 1830 to 1835 and as its first Mayor from 1840 to 1845. The township was created on December 20, 1830 from parts of Grant Township and Union Township. In 1870, when Ohio became a state all but one township in Delaware County – Scioto – seceded to become part of the new state of Ohio; Medina remained within Delaware County until it was taken over by Hamilton Township on October 1, 1900 thence becoming an unincorporated community within that township limits pending annexation by Scioto proper as part of that city’s official boundaries pursuant to an act approved November 9th 1888 which provided for consolidation of several adjacent communities including those situated on both sides of High Street between Fifth Avenue and Elmwood Avenue into one municipality with a single government which would provide services to all inhabitants irrespectiveof their residences therein or elsewhere within said city limits; annexations having been effected on January 1st 1911 through an order issued by Municipal Judge Wm Heman Clifford pursuant thereto.) It wasn't until 1922 that Columbus annexedmedina outright along with all other parts of Scioto Heights annexed back then too) reducing it size by about two-thirds The post office opened at 100 Harrison St., called "Harrisonville", on September 3rd 1850 The first fire department arrived in 1865 Medina has seen many changes throughout its history including being home to industries like textiles manufacturing during prohibition (1920-1925), dairy production during World War II (1942-1945), later trucking companies during the late 1960s/early 1970s which led to increased traffic demand resulting in more buildings being built such as this high school building erected in 1967
