Mayfield Heights is a town in Muskingum County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Mayfield" comes from James Mayfield's land grant of 168 acres (72 ha) to the village of Mayfield in 1802. The first inhabitants of what is now Mayfield Heights were Native American Indians and French Canadians who arrived during the 1790s and 1800s. In 1802, James Mayfield received a patent for 168 acres (72 ha), which became known as "Mayfield Heights." During the early 1800s, many people from Muskingum County settled in what is now Mayfield Heights. Among these people were John Goodrich and his brother Moses Goodrich. John Goodrich founded the township on March 6, 1824; he was one of the original trustees of Middletown Township when it was established in 1817. He died in office on February 1, 1865. His wife Martha lived to age 83 and died on October 12, 1902; she was one of seven sisters born to Nicholas Prentice and Mary Laddie Kingery Prentice (1815-1885). The first school in what is now Mayfield Heights was built by Reverend Ebenezer Morse on North Market Street in 1837-38. That school district closed its doors in 1957 due to budget cuts by then-Governor Jon Corzine. A new high school opened its doors at 501 North Market Street on September 3, 1974 with grades 9-12 serving students from Orchard Hills Elementary School across its parking lot until 2007 when that building also closed because of budget cuts by then-Governor Tom Ridge Jr.. A new elementary school opened its doors at 511 N Market Street on November 3, 2009 with grades pre-kindergarten through eighth grade serving students from Orchard Hills Elementary School across its parking lot until 2013 when that building also closed because of budget cuts by then-Governor Tom Riddle Jr.. A new middle school opened its doors at 513 N Market Street on January 20th 2014 with grades 7th through 8th grade serving students from Orchard Hills Elementary School across its parking lot until 2017 when that building also closed because of budget cuts by then-Governor Terry Branstad In recent years there has been talk about reopening or rebuilding old schools within or around MayFIELD HEIGHTS as part of an effort to revive some community spirit within this once vibrant town - something that seems increasingly hard to find given how much money seems always being diverted away from our local governments globally - despite pleas & promises coming out Of Columbus From both political parties--even though they are all supposed To Care About Our COMMUNITY--? Anyway-- On Saturday July 25th2017 a team consisting Of Local Law enforcement Officers From Muskingum county And Dayton As Well As One Extra Officer From Youngstown Also Came To Make An Announcement That There Would Be Another Schools open In MAYFIELD HEIGHTS Called “White Oak” This Was After Months Of Planning By Mayor Craig Ciotti Who Has Been Leading The Effort To Reopen Our Old High SCHOOL And Start Over Again With All New materials & Technology—Even tho Some People Have Said They Don’t Want To Go Back— After watching What Happened In WHITEoak We Can Clearly Say That We Are Not Alone In Throwing Up Our Hands— We Believe In equality & Compliance With Laws.— So If You AreLooking For Something New To Do In Your Town Then You Should Look No Further Than White Oak.— Craig Ciotti

Mayfield Heights is a small town located in the southwestern corner of Ohio, just west of Cincinnati. It was founded in 1815 by Colonel John Mayfield and his family, who became the first white settlers in what is now Mayfield Township. The community was renamed after General George Washington during the American Revolution, and quickly grew as a farming community. In 1871, Mayfield Heights incorporated as a village, and until the early 21st century it remained an unincorporated township. In 1921, Mayfield Heights was hit hard by the Great Depression. Many of its businesses closed down, and many residents lost their jobs. However, through hard work and determination, many of the original families returned to their home town over the next few years. In 1935, Mayfield Heights became part of the newly formed city of Cincinnati – an important development for the small town because it gave residents more access to resources and opportunities than they had ever experienced before. Today, Mayfield Heights remains a vibrant community with strong cultural ties to both Cincinnati and surrounding counties. Its unique history has helped make it a valuable resource for research or tourism purposes – both interests that have drawn people from all around central Ohio since its inception.
In 1812, Mayfield Heights was established as a part of the Northwest Territory. It was organized as a village in 1814 and became a city in 1837. The population of Mayfield Heights increased from 800 in 1850 to 12,000 by 1870. The city annexed the villages of Westmayde and Eastmayde in 1881. In 1907, Mayfield Heights became the first municipality in Ohio to be incorporated with an elected mayor and council.
