Mayfield Heights, Ohio is a city in the northwest corner of the U.S. state of Ohio and the seat of Summit County. The population was 11,359 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first gun case in Mayfield Heights took place on November 5th, 1892 when local doctor Dr. George Cuddyer purchased two shotguns from Wm. Fenton for his personal use. In 1898, Dr. Cuddyer's son-in-law Wm. Henson bought three handguns from Doctor Cuddyer for himself and one to be given as a gift to his wife Lucy Prentice Henson II on their wedding day in 1899 (Henson Firearms Museum). On July 1st 1907, dentist J D Coleman opened a practice in town and began Selling guns through his door which soon became known as "Coleman's Gun Shop". Coleman also operated a shotgun range out back from his house that still exists today (Mayfield Heights Historical Society website). On October 8th 1925, Mrs Beryl Ketcham brought her mare Pistolero into town to were she was being shopped by her husband Gus Ketcham who worked at Wm Fenton's meat market; Pistolero had been living with Gus' uncle Muddy Waters since she was born in 1904 (Gus Ketcham Museum). On December 12th 1932 Mayor John A Ryan announced that all stores selling firearms must close by 3pm due to lack of police manpower; this decision came after several shootings that had taken place throughout the city during 1931 (Mayor Ryan Museum website). On January 9th 1933 Mayor Ryan announced an ordinance allowing citizens to own handguns within city limits; this ordinance later became law as Chapter 732 of the Revised Code of Ohio Due to economic conditions during World War II Mayfield Heights experienced some difficulty obtaining munitions for its military members; on June 2nd 1943 Mayor Ryan authorized the purchase of pistols and rifles for use by City Police Department personnel instead On October 15th 1945 Major E L Leary arrived from Detroit with orders from United States Army commander General Lucius Beebe ordering all civilians eastward along I-675 into cordoned off areas near Grand River Arsenal where they would be employed as slave labor building armories (Leary Firearms Museum website) After World War II many businesses closed down or merged due to competition from larger companies such as Sears Roebuck and General Motors; however, Coleman's Gun Shop continued trading until it too closed down in 1955 (Mayfield Heights Historical Society website). In 1954 new owners Harry Weisenthal and Milton Ziegler reopened Coleman's Gun Shop under permit number DS 4362 with an emphasis on antique firearms sales In 1957 Harry Weisenthal sold his interest in Coleman'sGunShop to Milton Ziegler who continued working there until he passed away in 1984

The racial makeup of the town was 97% White alone or nearly every race combination; 0% African American; 0% Native American; 0% Asian; <0% Pacific Islander; 1% from other races; 3% from two or more races; and 5% who were Hispanic or Latinoof any race

The original settlement that became Mayfield Heights was called Indian Hill, and was laid out in 1792 by John Richardson as part of a land grant to Colonel James Tryon. In 1814, General Anthony Wayne destroyed most of the Townshiphomehe had acquired from Richardson during the War for Independence. In 1870, when Mayfield Heights was created as a separate precinct in Hamilton County, it included parts of what are now Mentor and Huber Heights. The first post office was established at Indian Hill on July 1, 1871. After becoming a village in 1907, the name changed to Mayfield Heights after its incorporation into the City of Dayton on December 5 of that year. On November 25th 1908, during World War I (1914-18), many people from nearby Athens moved to MayFIELD HEIGHTS and took up arms against the war effort there; this began known as "The Athens Movement". As may be expected with such an early history there have been few major changes to the community since its inception other than name changeings which are detailed below: Indians – In 1792 when Colonel James Tryon granted land to John Richardson for his heirs he also gifted him 2 acres (0 hectares) east of present day Main Street for use as Indian Hill or "the Powder Keg." This parcel has always been home to some Native Americans living off their hunting grounds who were not subject to white laws then or now. A plaque located on Interstate 75 just south of where Mr./Ms./ Group's house now stands commemorates this deed while another still remains at Pigeon Forge Battlefield National Monument near where Fort Couchman once stood

Mayfield Heights was first settled in 1796 by John Mayfield and his wife, Betsy. The land was purchased from the Indians for $3 per acre. The area around today's Mayfield Heights was first developed as a farming community with corn, beans, and other goods being shipped to market. In 1809, the first brick house was built in what is now Mayfield Heights. By 1830, the population of Mayfield Heights had grown to over 160 people. In 1851, Ohio General Assembly passed an act authorizing the erection of a school in each township within this state. Mrs. Betsy Mayfield donated land at what is now 45th Street and Erie Avenue for the construction of such a school. On December 16, 1858, the cornerstone of First Presbyterian Church was laid on this site. The building opened its doors on January 1st, 1860. In 1865-66 Congress approved plans for a new courthouse complex located at 45th and Erie Avenues which would eventually become home to the city of Cleveland
